Six Problems Faced by Today's Photographers – and How to Tackle Them
Last Update: Monday, December 7, 2015 : 11:10 (+4GMT)
A smartphone or a camera? A compact camera or a heavy SLR? With Wi-Fi or without? These are only a few of the dilemmas faced by the contemporary traveler when deciding on his or her photography solution. Read on to find out how you can tackle some of the top photography woes plaguing today’s holiday-goer.
1. A smartphone or a camera?
A camera obviously takes better pictures than your smartphone, but with your smartphone you will be able put your snaps online immediately. So which one of the two should you take with you on a trip? Well, simply opt for an SD card with in-built Wi-Fi, which can turn a regular camera into a connected camera – so you won’t be compromising on quality, but will still be able to enjoy the benefits of a smartphone.
2. Forgot the camera, but still want to be able to blog…
Every blogger has ever experienced it: you’ve just installed yourself by the pool, made yourself comfortable, start working on blogging about your experiences so far, and realise you’ve left your camera back in the hotel room. Here’s when you need an SD card that can automatically sync up your photographs with multiple devices, or at least the primary device you own.
3. That photograph you just can’t seem to find
Did you lose that picture you took in Kenya of a rare lion? Or the pictures of you and your family swimming with dolphins? The Eyefi SD card has a nifty solution for that – while you can manually add or edit tags, this card tags your photos automatically as well. So, for instance, if you were to be looking for the photograph of the rare lion all you’d have to do is search for the word ‘lion’ and voila, any pictures containing lions would show up. On a side note, this is also a pretty convenient solution for organising your photographs automatically, should you not have the time or inclination to do so.
4. Accessing images offline
Let’s say you’re somewhere with limited connectivity but want to be able to show someone of a picture of something that happened to you. Here’s where having an SD card that sync up all your pictures to all your devices would come in handy. Alternatively, it is possible to use a solution such as the Eyefi Cloud which makes your photographs available to you even when offline.
5. Oops, the camera’s gone!
There’s a lot that can happen to a camera when travelling – it can get stolen, you could leave it in a cab or a bus, accidentally drop it in the pool. So make sure you use either an SD card that sync up all your photographs with your device or devices automatically, or syncs up your photographs with an online storage space, such as the cloud.
6. Taking that perfect shot again and again
Is there a particular snap you took that was just perfect? And would you like to be able to be able to repeat that perfection in every picture you take from here on out? The best way to make this happen is to learn from the photograph. There are solutions out there that can analyse that perfect photograph for you, and tell you which camera the photograph was taken with, what lens was use, what the aperture was, and so on and so forth.
So go on and improve the quality of pictures you take when travelling with some of these hand tips. Happy photographing.
