Abu Dhabi-UAE: 25 October, 2015 – Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, has launched the second phase of the campaign on the Manaa consumer safety system.
Running from October18 to 29, 2015, the awareness campaign includes a variety of promotional activities on radio, print and online media as well as at major shopping malls in Abu Dhabi emirate.
For phase II, the #AskManaa social media competition is a key highlight. Open to the general public, the competition aims to promote the Manaa product recall and incident reporting system and encourage participants to share consumer safety messages and tips with their friends and followers on social media platforms.
As part of the competition, one lucky participant will win a two-night stay and round-trip ticket to watch a football match for two persons in Manchester
To enter the competition, participants are required to post a question about consumer safety via any social media platform with the hashtag #AskManaa. Manaa will answer the question through the Manaa mascot and the winner, chosen by random selection, will be announced following the completion of the competition. To learn more about consumer safety, please visit Manaa website at www.manaa.ae.
Mohammed Helal Al Balooshi, Marketing & Communications Acting Director at Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), said: “Following the successful completion of the phase I of Manaa awareness campaign, we are pleased to present the second phase. Phase I attracted huge interest and broad participation from all segments of society, especially consumers in Abu Dhabi. The campaign helped eco our messages about consumer safety throughout the different social media channels, while spreading awareness on the objectives and benefits of using Manaa system.”
“Creating informed consumers is a crucial step in creating a better and safer market in Abu Dhabi. At QCC, we are keen to leverage the latest technologies such as social networking platforms and mobile applications to help raise the level of community awareness about the harmful impact of faulty and dangerous products through increased community engagement and participation,” Al Balooshi added.
Congratulating Sara Miller, winner of phase I, who asked Manaa a question about the safety and fitness of water cooler she had purchased, Al Balooshi encouraged others who didn’t make it to the phase I of the completion to participate for their chance to win valuable chances in phase II and phase III.
Manaa is a first-of-its-kind interactive product recall and incident reporting system that allows consumers to view and identify products that have been withdrawn from the market for non-compliance to the UAE’s safety standards. The web-based system features images of the recalled products such as toys and electrical appliances, as well as model numbers and reasons for withdrawal. For added convenience of customers, the portal can be accessed on smart devices through downloading the app from the Apple and Samsung application stores.
The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products, while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. This is achieved through empowering regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
