Mini table tennis tournament and sapling plantation  Conducted to promote green awareness

The philosophy of playing and getting pleasure while helping others is in the hearts of Affiliation of Dynamic Table Tennis Athletes (ADTTA) principals. They always try support fund raising events every 3 months for various causes including the recent successful event “One spin for Nepal” where they managed to collect about AED16000 to be sent for relief to Nepal.

On 29th May 2015, ADTTA organized a Mini Ping pong tournament with the theme “Together for a greener Earth” At my request at the Al Jazira Club, Abudhabi. I am a green ambassador and eco champ and created the green concept and event to spread awareness on the environmental protection and conservation and motivating all to Go green and wanted to motivate the participants to come for my sapling plantation event organized from the funds derived from the Tournament for a cause.

With the aim of creating a collective positive green impact on this World environment day, the event was planned with the Green theme, the trophies were designed showing Go Green and the participants had a minimum registration fees of AED 50. The collections of the tournament less the expenses of the venue and food were given to me for organizing the saplings plantation at the Green works Nursery, Dubai.

It is said that “the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is now”. In order to maintain the ecosystem, the first step is responsible consumption and supporting reforestation.

We should do our best to reduce cutting of trees, conserve natural resources by diligent consumption of water, energy, fuels and we need to take a pledge this day  to spread awareness on energy conservation, appreciate and understand that we depend on nature and ecosystem services to provide us a secure and healthy living.

Biodiversity has decreased tremendously and the multiple causes are land conversion for development and agriculture, destruction of natural forests and habitats, climate change and global warming, pollution, coral reef depletion, deforestation etc.

As expected, the event was a fruitful one due to unity and approachable outlook amongst the players regardless of ages and nationality.

ADTTA gave me the funds raised from the event which I used to plant the saplings. Myself with a few of my friends visited the Green works nursery on June 5th, the World environmental day took a tour to learn about the approximately 700 various plant species the nursery caters to, in addition to trees which are close to 450 years old and planted saplings. The theme for this year's WED is “Seven billion dreams, one planet, consume with care”. If each of us care to plant atleast one sapling a year on one special day, we can work together for greenery around us and make a positive impact on the environment

Green works is the region's largest plant nursery and was the first project of Al Barari Chairman Mr Zaal Mohammed Zaal in 1997, which stemmed from his fervent devotion to nature and plants and environmental protection. Each plant in Greenworks is diligently tended to by their team of 60 experts who secure the adequate temperature, wind and soil consistency for every leaf on the premises.

It is very important to create awareness in order for us to appreciate and understand that we depend on nature and ecosystem services to provide us a secure and healthy living.

Long live to ADTTA and its Principals, they showed perseverance in a very simple way.
