The annual dance program “Nrityasmarpan” of our dance group “Prasitham” organized by our teacher Mrs. Kavita Prasana was scheduled on the 14th of June at the American university sharjah auditorium.
It was a blessing and a dream come true to meet His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qassimi, the ruler of Sharjah who was on an important meeting at AUS, He was very gracious to spend a few minutes listening to me and seeing my green pledge tree and allowed me to click a snap with him.
I always wish to spread environmental awareness at the events where I can get an opportunity and organized an event with few of my friends. I prepared the script, placards and also displayed my art from waste table at the venue to encourage children to practice upcycled art. We updated the audience on some green tips to follow in daily life.
The participants were Nityashri Sankaran, Divyashri Sankaran, Neha Swaminathan, Lohitha Swaminathan, Prasitha Prasanna, Rahitha Prasanna, Ankita James and Nitisha Nandakumar – children from 8-15 years old from various schools in the UAE who are all eco ambassadors from their schools.
The earth does not belong to us but we belong to it. We need to take positive environment action to protect nature and the planet. The 2015 theme for world environment day according to the United Nations is sustainable consumption and production. The slogan for the theme is seven billion dreams, one planet, consume with care. Imagine if seven billion people each planted a tree on one special day, how much greenery we would have around us?
We gave green tips on saving water, energy, resources and trees and motivated all to practice the 3 Rs in our daily life. We recommended the use of alternate sources of energy like wind, solar and water energy.
We insisted to the audience that “None of us can change our yesterdays, but all of us can change our tomorrows”. Its most important to SPREAD THE WORD AND CREATE AWARENESS whenever you can and as much as you can. Do your bit as it is our obligation to try and make a difference to the planet. We continuously take from the planet and it is our turn to give back.
The audience took a green pledge to save mother earth - “We will all work for a green tomorrow”.
It was indeed an evening of joy, entertainment and fulfillment and I was able to take a small step towards spreading awareness and a greener globe.
