Awareness Drive Supports Ministry of Interior’s “Safe Summer” Campaign
Dubai. Roads and Transport Authority. 10th June 2026:
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has called on motorists to carry out periodic vehicle inspections and regular maintenance, particularly during the summer season, when high temperatures and humidity place greater demands on cooling systems and tyre pressure.
Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, said the campaign forms part of a wide-ranging package of summer awareness activities and events launched by RTA in support of the Ministry of Interior’s national “Safe Summer” campaign, held annually in partnership with traffic departments across the UAE.
Al Khzaimy said: “The awareness plan includes the extensive dissemination of guidance messages through billboards across Dubai, digital screens at Customer Happiness Centres, smart app interfaces, and the official social media platforms of RTA and its public and private sector partners. The messages encourage drivers to regularly check vehicle efficiency and tyre condition, helping prevent sudden breakdowns and unplanned stops on the road that can lead to serious traffic incidents.”
He added that RTA’s awareness efforts also extend to providing traffic safety guidance to students at summer centres and to attendees of summer events and activities across Dubai. He called on drivers to make a quick visual inspection a daily habit before starting any journey by checking tyre pressure, engine oil and radiator coolant levels, and ensuring there are no water or oil leaks beneath the vehicle.
Al Khzaimy also warned parents of the serious danger of leaving children unattended inside vehicles, stressing that heat build-up can lead to suffocation and death within minutes, even when the air-conditioning system is running. He added: “Air conditioning does not guarantee adequate protection inside a fully closed vehicle. Children must never be left in a vehicle under any circumstances, even for short periods. Community awareness stands as the first line of defence for children’s safety.”
Summer Traffic Safety Guidelines for Drivers
- Air-conditioning efficiency: Check that the air-conditioning system is operating efficiently and cooling the cabin effectively on hot days.
- Fluids and oils: Regularly monitor engine oil and coolant levels, as engine temperatures rise significantly during summer.
- Tyre safety: Ensure tyres are inflated to the correct pressure, structurally sound and free of cracks to avoid sudden blowouts in high temperatures.
- Braking system: Inspect the brake system regularly and replace any damaged components promptly to ensure effective vehicle response in emergencies.
- Vehicle cleanliness and visibility: Keeping the vehicle clean, inside and out, helps early detection of faults and leaks. The windscreen, rear window and lights must also be kept clean and clear to ensure visibility while driving.
- Vehicle protection: Avoid parking the vehicle in direct sunlight for extended periods and use shaded parking wherever possible to protect it from heat stress.
