Vinu Joseph reveals the uncertainties of life through his solo act at Art*ry
Dubai, May 25, 2015: Art*ry is proud to present Dr. Vikadan a “Bouffonesque” on 30th May from 6pm to 7pm. The performance is a part of the ongoing art exhibition NH 7+ 47 Southern Sojourn curated by Mukta Ahluwalia Bedi at the Art*ry space, Al Quoz.
Dr. VIKADAN is an original piece of performance which evolved from the territories of mystery, bouffon and the wondrous body inspired from Jacques Lecoq’s (French actor, mime and acting instructor) pedagogical matrix in theatre.
“Art*ry visions to create dialogues and expressions with its audiences, using contemporary visual art practices. Vinu Josephs’ performance breaks new ground in presentation of alternate art practices, something unique for galleries in Dubai,” commented Valsalan Kanara, Gallery Director, Art*ry.
"UAE has a history of Performance Art practiced by world renowned Emirati contemporary visual artists like Hassan Sharif and Mohammed Kazem. The purpose of bringing Dr. Vikadan a Bouffonesque, to Dubai is because we believe that performance art is well received and appreciated by many in this part of the world", added Mr. Kanara.
“The aim of this art show is to present alternative art practices in India. Vinu was invited to present a piece of performance art in the gallery. The easiest way for me to explain performance art, which is different from performing arts, is when an artist uses his body as medium instead of a paint brush and canvas,” commented Mukta Ahluwalia Bedi, Curator.
“During my advanced course in London International School of Performing Arts, I explored these theatrical territories and created a “BOUFFONESQUE” performative body, movement and text. The research to bouffon world challenged me to find the origin on these creatures. Sometimes it’s from mystery, night, earth or heaven. Bouffons are visualized in their prophetic state; having fun imitating aspects of human life or society as whole,” explains Vinu Joseph, Artist.
