Continuing bringing competitive excellence to the promising State of Qatar, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the national trade promotion agency of Malaysia is organising its flagship of Malaysia Services Exhibition (MSE) which will be held in conjunction with Project Qatar 2015, scheduled to take place from 4 to 7 May 2015 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).
Within the four days of exhibition, the MSE Doha 2015 pavilion will showcase the expertise and capabilities of Malaysian services providers focusing on two clusters namely construction and related services as well as building materials. The construction cluster will feature the services of designing and engineering drawings of scaffolding, supply of insulation materials & UPVC roofing sheet as well as designing & building architecture tensile structures. Participating Malaysian companies in the building material cluster will promote products such as air conditioning units, flexistone & stone veneer, bathroom equipments, benches, paints & coatings, sealant, hygienic products, aluminium doors & windows and LED lightings.
“We believe that Malaysian companies participating this year are offering products and services that are considerably sought after by the market in view of the ongoing construction opportunities. Local companies are invited to visit our MSE pavilion, engaging our companies that promoting quality but yet competitive products and services.” said Remee Yaakub, Malaysian Trade Commissioner responsible for Qatar.
Qatar continues to be an important trading partner for Malaysia. In 2014, total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Qatar was amounted to US$1.20 billion. Malaysia’s total exports to Qatar in 2014 have soared by 64.6 per cent to reach US$362.53 million while total imports from Qatar were valued at US$833.61 million.
Among major Malaysia’s exports to Qatar in 2014 were electrical and electronic products valued at US$124.82 million followed by iron and steel products (US$92.38 million), machinery, appliances and parts (US$19.82 million), manufactures of metal (US$17.24 million) and wood products (USD13.14 million). Trending similar figures in previous years, over 90 per cent of Malaysia’s imports from Qatar last year were largely contributed by the oil and gas industry, whereby crude petroleum alone has tracked slightly over 60 percent from total imports valued at US$521.03 million.
On 18 March 2014, MATRADE has officially opened the Malaysia Trade Centre Doha, located at The Gate West Bay, aims at providing platform for Qatari businesses to establish closer business partnerships with their counterparts from Malaysia. Visitors at the Centre will have the opportunity to view Malaysian products in a showroom environment that enable visualisation of the products in their actual application and usage. At the same time, it showcases the expertise and capabilities of Malaysian services provider through multimedia presentations and graphic panels.
“The Centre is promoting Malaysian businesses across diverse industries such as construction services, electrical and electronics, information communication technology, oil and gas, healthcare, building materials and sporting goods. Since its inception last year, our Malaysia Trade Centre Doha has organised multiple engagements promoting tie-ups among Malaysian companies with Qatari businesses.” Remee said.
