He was all praise for the employees of AFOCH who came out in full strength and encouraged others also to join the marathon. He said that it was an occasion for Abu Dhabi’s multicultural society to show solidarity and support as well as creating an awareness of this important health issue.
He said that the unprecedented support indicates the desire of the people to fight a terrible disease that affects so many people and the strong sense of community to rally for a good cause. It is important to know that all registrations fees go directly to the Healthy Kidney Foundation. Donations were also made online without participation.
Mr. Freeman said, “We are very much impressed by the growing success of the Zayed Marathon year after year. It was very encouraging to witness an increasing number of participants and the community spirit that helped raise more than AED700,000 for kidney research.”
The marathon is organised every year by the Armed Forces Officers Club and Hotel, in collaboration with Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company. The race is held in memory of the country’s founding President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who underwent a kidney transplant in the United States in the year 2000.
