Abu Dhabi Ports makes safety training mandatory to get port pass

AED 1 million spent on new health and safety training programme

Abu Dhabi, UAE: As part of its commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, Abu Dhabi Ports has introduced a new health and safety training programme as a prerequisite to get a port gate pass.

The “Day One Induction” has been introduced with an initial investment of UAE 1 million dirhams and targets all of those who visit and work on any of Abu Dhabi Ports’ premises, including staff, contractors and truck drivers.

“Safety is Abu Dhabi Port’s highest priority, we are totally focused on ensuring the well-being of our employees, partners and port visitors and to eliminating work related injuries and incidents. The ‘Day One Induction’ will help to enlighten people about safety hazards before they enter the port which will improve awareness and create a heightened sensitivity,” says Sultan Al Jaberi, Vice President – VP HSE, Regulations & Security.

The training programme includes animated movies which address the different health and safety matters in an-easy-to-understand manner. The movies have been produced in Arabic, English, Urdu and Pashto to suit Abu Dhabi Ports’ multinational work environment.

The movies are 25 minutes long and cover various subjects, from general safety guidelines and incident reporting, to first aid, fire prevention, and the handling of hazardous materials.

Each visitor, employee, partner or port visitor must watch the relevant “Day One Induction” movie and then complete a short assessment to ensure that they have understood the content and to re-inforce the messages.

Additionally, Abu Dhabi Ports launched the online induction to ensure easy access and to reach an even wider audience.

Abu Dhabi Ports’ HSE department has dedicated four training rooms equipped with the latest IT technologies to support the candidates in undertaking and completing the programme before obtaining the port gate pass.
