Pioneering Emirati Fashion designer, Fatema Al Fardan recently burst onto Dubai's fashion scene with the launch of her maiden collection in Dubai. In a bid to launch her first collection, the SS15, a special event was held that got select media, bloggers and VIPs of the UAE together in a setting that brought to life Fatema's cutting-edge world! Divided into two, the event that was held on the 18th of November at the artistic JamJar Warehouse in Al Quoz catered to the media between 5:00 to 7:00 pm before transforming into an event for the VIPs from 8:00 pm onwards.
In order to recreate Fatema's world, the venue was adorned in posters of her design sketches that were put up on the walls. As guests entered, they got the opportunity to get clicked against a very special photo wall before moving inside to discover Fatema's lovely world! The ambiance perfectly highlighted the theme of her collection; a garden was recreated with real trees, plants and flowers with lounge seating deployed. Her pattern inspirations and fabric materials embellished the place while a fresh Candy buffet surrounded by floral arrangements was positioned right in the center of the venue. Models sporting Fatema's creations posed in them after which they mingled with the guests elegantly showcasing Fatema's beautiful collections. Even the food, beverages and desserts replicated the feel of Fatema's world as they all arrived in delicate pastel shades that were reminiscent of the tints used by the designer! Appealing to the sense of sound was the entertainment for the evening; a saxophonist who kept the crowd enchanted with the melodious tunes she belted out throughout the evening. As the evening drew to a close and guests departed, they left with a very special gift courtesy of Fatema Al Fardan!
For her maiden collection, the SS15, Fatema's inspiration came from the 1950's and part of the 60's too. Basically the era that women first started working in they were mostly seen wearing midi skirts, jackets and trousers. Menswear was given a feminine twist in that era and it was this aspect that appealed to Fatema as she mixed and matched menswear with women's wear for her first collection, thus softening the manly silhouettes. Nature and colors proved to be other inspirations as you will see the collection abound in floral patterns and soft shades of Pink, Blue, Beige and more! Further inspired by Balenciaga's 50's collection, Fatema has used techno yet traditional fabrics as she blended Jacquard, silk and types of lace thus making for a dynamic yet very wearable, feminine collection! As far as people who inspired her go, Fatema's muses are strong women figures like Queen Rania of Jordan or Amal Alamuddin, internationally renowned lawyer, predominantly professional and impressive women from diverse fields who are fashionable as well. Women who are known as much for their professionalism as they are for their fashion sense are the kind of women Fatema drew inspiration from and the collection contains silhouettes that would perfectly suit such women.
With a stunning maiden collection that astounded the guests present at the event, Fatema Al Fardan looks set to conquer Dubai's fashion scene with her cutting-edge fashion sense!
