Dubai World Hospitality Championship 2014's Hospitality Sector Competition to attract high participation in Ice Sculpture category

UAE, 1 November, 2014 – The Ice Sculpture category within the Hospitality Sector Competition witnessed a broad international participation. Representatives from various countries will create their most innovative sculptures and unique designs made of ice when they compete in the category’s individual and group divisions. Individual participants will be required to create ice sculptures inspired by Emirati heritage and hospitality traditions within 90 minutes. Each competitor will be provided with one large ice cube to carve their creations using their own carving tools.
For group division, competitiors will have to prepare their sculptures inspired by the country’s heritage and unique hospitality within 120 minutes. Each team is comprised of two persons and will carve three ice cubes using carving and cleaning tools.
Majid Al Marri, Director of Hospitality Sector Competition and International Competition, DWHC said: “The Ice Sculpture challenge is one of the key highlights of the Hospitality Sector Competition as it aims to promote the Emirati heritage through innovative artistic sculptures. Aside from ice sculpture, the Hospitality Sector Competition will also feature a variety of other categories aimed at showcasing the artistic and aesthetic capabilities of the participants. Other categories include wedding cake decoration, chocolate sculpting and preparation of Emirati and Gulf dishes.”

The competition offers an ideal platform to discover promising talents who are looking to make their mark in the hospitality sector,” Al Marri concluded.
Jenan Al Fesam, Coordinator of Hospitality Sector Competition and International Competition, DWHC, said: “We aim, through Dubai World Hospitality Championship, at promoting the growth of the UAE’s hospitality sector. In the Ice Sculpture category, the participants showed their high skills and talents in creating ice sculptures inspired by the rich heritage and authentic culture of the UAE. The jury expressed their appreciation for the contestants’ extraordinary performance. Two silver medals and four bronze medals had been handed out to the winners during the first and second days. The competition gained the admiration of DWHC’s audience and visitors.
Under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, DWHC 2014 is being held from October 30 to November 1, 2014. It is organized and supported by Za’abeel Palace Hospitality and Dubai Government in cooperation with World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) and The Emirates Culinary Guild (ECG).
