UAE, November 1, 2014 –Dubai World Hospitality Championship 2014 witnessed a high-level of regional and international participation in various competitions, including the International Competition in which culinary arts connoisseurs from the Arab and Gulf states are given an opportunity to showcase their creativity and world-class skills.


Under the International Competition, Arab & Gulf chefs prepared traditional Arabic dishes before an audience in a bid to make the championship more interactive and attractive to local and foreign visitors.

“I am very privileged to participate in the championship as it promotes the Emirati cuisine culture. I am scheduled to compete for two days. On the first day, I prepared the traditional dish ‘Harees' but I gave it a contemporary look. For the second day, I prepared Tabbouleh with grilled and roasted vegetables. Dubai, as one of the world's developed cities, is now known as a leading host of prestigious competitions such as DWHC in hopes of attracting more tourists and visitors,” said Emirati Chef Mohammed Orfali.


For his part, Chef Joe Barza said: “Dubai is a global destination that attracts celebrities and leaders in all fields. It has been considered as the first tourist hub in the Middle East, and this has motivated me to participate in the competition and capitalize on its popularity. For the competition, I prepared Palestinian and Lebanese dishes such as Maftoul with tomato and chicken with salvia.”

Chef Tareq Ibrahim said: “DWHC means a lot to me especially because it is being held in Dubai. The championship is an important step towards joining other global competitions. It is an great opportunity for us to showcase our skills in the global stage. For my part, I prepared an Australian premier steak dish and another meal with carrots and tahini.”

Chef Muna Abu Al Hasan from Bahrain, who is participating in the championship for the first time, said: “It is a great opportunity to represent Bahrain and show off my culinary skills in front of an international audience. I hope that I can showcase the Bahraini traditional dishes and sweets in an innovative and unique way. DWHC is an ideal platform for us as it encourages chefs to compete alongside the best in the world.”

Kuwaiti folk singer Suleiman Al Qassar is also one of event's challengers this year. Al Qassar said: “Although I am not a professional chef, I love cooking and it has become my hobby. I participated in the championship to be exposed to other talented cooks. I prepared traditional Kuwaiti dishes, and I am very happy to come to Dubai, a city that continues to impress the world by hosting distinct and unique global events.” 

Chef Wafaa said: “I am proud to represent Kuwait in the championship and and I'm very happy to come to Dubai to compete. This is my first time to participate in the event. I think that the championship will result in an increased number of investment opportunities for the emirate's hospitality sector in future.”

Chef Ali Al Ali from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said: “DWHC gives me an opportunity to showcase my skills to a wider audience. I invite all my Saudi fellows to come and participate in the competition. For the food innovation, I presented an extensive range of Saudi traditional dishes nut with a contemporary and modern touch.”

Sultanate of Oman representative, Chef Issa, said: “I have the honor to participate in this championship and represent Sultanate of Oman. Omani dishes are known for their diversity and are very popular to tourists. I prepared a range of traditional dishes with modern twist, Omani sweets with new flavors, and Lebanese salads with Omani flavor. My participation in this global platform is an opportunity to promote Oman and to educate the world about the Omani cuisine. Dubai is an attractive destination for talented people who seek to develop and excel in their lives and careers.”

Qatari chef Aisha Al Tamimi said: “DWHC is an important event to promote Arab region's hospitality sector. This is my first time to participate in the event and I aim to be one of the international chefs to win top honors this year. My aim is to cook Qatari and international dishes.”

The 2nd DWHC, which is organized by Za'abeel Palace Hospitality in collaboration with World Association of Chefs Societies and the Emirates Culinary Guild, is taking place in support of Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development, Dubai Press Club, Emaar Properties and Fly Dubai.
