Applications now open for the Falcon Scholarship
Last Update: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 : 14:21 (+4GMT)
The Falcon Scholarship enables postgraduate study at the University of Oxford. It is modelled on the Rhodes Scholarship and is administered by the Rhodes Trust.
The Falcon Scholarship is awarded to exceptional students who have completed an undergraduate degree from a college or university in the United Arab Emirates. The Scholarship enables them to study at the University of Oxford for a minimum of two years, on a fully funded basis. Applications are now open, and the deadline is Friday 24 October 2014, 11:59pm (Gulf Standard Time).
As well as enjoying the vibrant postgraduate community of Oxford faculties and colleges, Falcon Scholars will be welcomed as full members of the Rhodes community in Oxford. Like Rhodes Scholars, recipients of the Falcon Scholarship will be chosen on the basis of outstanding intellect, character, capacity for leadership, and commitment to service as well as outstanding academic performance.
A Falcon Scholarship covers University and College fees, a maintenance stipend (for 2014-15 this is £13,658 per annum), and travel expenses to and from Oxford at the start and end of the course of study. Candidates for a Falcon Scholarship must have completed their undergraduate degree from a college or university located in the UAE by October 2015.
Studying at the University of Oxford will give the chosen Scholars access to world class academics in their field as well as an international alumni network that includes heads of state, Pulitzer Prize winning authors, Nobel Prize winners and Olympians.
The first Falcon Scholars were elected in 2013 and will start at Oxford this October. Full information can be read here: http://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk/news/two-students-named-falcon-scholars
Outstanding applicants in this year’s application process will be shortlisted for interview, which will take place in Abu Dhabi during November 2014.
