Ajman University Student's proved their mettle yet again, at an international platform. The IEEE Day Photo Contest 2013 was about bringing together engineers world-wide to demonstrate and compete with their creativity and talent in presenting the year's theme of “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”.
The objective of the competition was to motivate students to initiate, organize and coordinate events taking into consideration the theme of 2013 and submit their pictures for evaluation. The Final-Round Evaluation was a 2-Phase process:
Phase 1: Public voting by networking online with the tools made available for this purpose: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or the IEEE Day website.
Phase 2: Evaluation of objective, concept and outcomes by IEEE esteemed panel of judges.
The competition was open to all IEEE student branches across the world. 418 entries qualified to the final round and competed for 10 winning positions. AUST Women In Engineering (WIE) members proved themselves to be the best in the world by winning the 1st place in Global IEEE Day Photo Competition 2013.
The team participated by conducting an activity with Autistic Children at Sharjah Humanitarian City. The objectives were to bridge the gap between the privileged and challenged, work towards empowering the Autistic Children in understanding and using technology. AUST WIE members plan to organize a fund raising event to sell off the hand-painted logos and use the collections to equip the center with PC's and iPad in addition to donating a portion of their winnings.
The winning team comprised of 12 IEEE WIE members, namely, Shazia Anis, Maryam Khawar, Shyrose Wahid, Mahnoor Zafar, Nashwa AbdulNazir, Saadia Shoaib, Ammara Javed, Rasmina AbdulKarim, Isra Zulfiqar, Saadia Naeem, Safia Ali and Roua Abdulrahim.
