Dubai-UAE: 30 October, 2013 - Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, in collaboration with Medicure Medical Centre organised a breast cancer awareness day for its staff and companies operating in DSO that included free screenings at the DSOA headquarters.
The Medicure centre's medical professionals were present at DSOA HQ from 9am to 2pm for the campaign. In parallel, DSOA organised a bake sale themed ‘Bake for Hope' that saw residents, staff and tenants of DSO coming together with various types of cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other baked goodies to contribute to the cause. The sale proceeds were donated to Dubai Health Authority towards the support of breast cancer patients.
Haidar Ali, Vice-President - People and Business Excellence at Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, said: “October is a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness and we make it our priority at DSOA to contribute to causes that affect our society. We take our pledge of our comprehensive CSR strategy based on three main pillars: environment, human capital and community very seriously and such events help us to continuously provide support to our staff and community.”
Humaid Mansoor, Managing Director at Medicure Medical Centre said: “Early detection is vital to the successful treatment of many forms of cancer. We aim to underline this message through our activities around this condition. By participating in the one-day event, it was our aim to encourage as many women working and living at the high-tech park to use the opportunity of a free screening.”
According to the Emirates Cancer Foundation, the two most common forms of cancer in the UAE are breast cancer in women and colorectal (bowel or colon) cancer in men.
A wholly-owned entity of the Dubai government, Dubai Silicon Oasis operates as a free zone technology park for the semiconductor, microelectronic and other high technology-based companies looking to set up their regional headquarters and research and development facilities in the Middle East and Africa region.
