Ajman University of Science & Technology was represented at the Arab Women Calligraphy Exhibition held at Palais des Nations in Geneva, by an engineering student Maryam Al Tamimi.
Twenty six Emirati and Arab female calligraphers displayed more than 50 beautiful Arabic calligraphic works at the art exhibition held by the UN Arab Book Club. H.E Ambassador Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates at the European Headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva and other International Organizations based in Switzerland, inaugurated the event. He stressed in his address that the participation of elite Emirati calligraphers at the cultural event underscores the UAE's care and support for culture, arts and innovation. The Arab Book Club's aim is to promote and spread Arabic culture, literature, art and civilization, and also to consolidate cultural and social relations among its members within the framework of international organizations.
Dr. Fahr Hayati, Dean of Engineering Faculty, said that the University's participation in this exhibition is a result of its keen interest in Culture and Art. We encourage our students to participate at such forums and exhibitions for it not only boasts their morale but also strengthens their ties to the outside world.
Maryam Al Tamimi exhibited 6 of her best work which includes Bird of Peace, alphabet calligraphy and most importantly her first ever painting where it says in Arabic “Allah is sufficient for every extremity”. Her other work is a poetic work of art inspired by her favorite romantic poet Mansur AL Hallaj.
Maryam al Tamimi appreciated the support Ajman University extended to her and encouraged her to participate in this cultural and art exhibition. It is noteworthy that this exhibition was attended by international art lovers and appreciated by the calligraphy communities.
