ACHE MENA group workshop highlights patient safety

Abu Dhabi ,September 26th, 2013, A leadership workshop that focused on patient safety and improved performance for healthcare leaders gathered more than 50 ACHE healthcare professionals from the UAE and Bahrain at the Abu Dhabi University Auditorium early this month. The event was sponsored by Corniche Hospital and the American College of Healthcare Executives Middle East & North Africa (ACHE MENA) Group and hosted by the Abu Dhabi University.
A workshop entitled “TeamSTEPPS®-Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety” focused on the importance of team training, leadership and physician motivation. The session was led by Stephen M Powell, President and Chief Executive Officer for Healthcare Team Training, LLC (HTT), a performance improvement training and consulting company based in Georgia, USA.
The ACHE MENA Group is an active arm of the ACHE, a leading international professional society with more than 40,000 members. ACHE is recognised as the premier professional society for healthcare executives for advancing professionalism and expertise.
“We are grateful that Mr. Powell was able to visit Abu Dhabi and provide our group with such a great seminar. Our members gained valuable knowledge that will lead to enhanced patient safety, something we are all committed to achieving every day in all our organizations,” said Ron Lavater, CEO of Corniche Hospital and President of ACHE MENA.
Dr. Mariam Al Mazrouei, deputy CEO of Corniche Hospital and the President-Elect of ACHE MENA added that the workshop's turnout demonstrated how seriously the issue of patient safety is taken by the healthcare industry in the Emirate and the region.
Speaking on behalf of Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Radwan Al Jarrah, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said: “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to work alongside Corniche Hospital in hosting this successful event.”
