UAE malls contribute more than 30,000 donation bags across the Emirates
Dubai, UAE, 24 August 2013 – Majid Al Futtaim Properties has collected a record 40,000 donation bags from 12 participating malls across the Middle East during its annual ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan' charity drive. The region-wide initiative was held in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman and the UAE to collect new or gently-used, non-perishable items throughout the Holy month.
For the seventh year, UAE malls including Ajman City Centre, Deira City Centre, Fujairah City Centre, Mall of the Emirates, Mirdif City Centre and Sharjah City Centre collected items and donated them to the Red Crescent to be dispersed to those less-fortunate in the community. More than 30,000 bags were collected in the UAE. Adding to the campaign's success, this year talented musician Shamma Hamdan lent her support to the initiative. Shamma helped to encourage residents – particularly the younger population, to donate this Ramadan.
“The ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan' initiative joins together Majid Al Futtaim Properties' shopping malls with retailers and shoppers for a long-standing and notable charitable cause. We want to thank everyone who donated for their support and, in particular, Shamma Hamdan for being this year's campaign ambassador – which resulted in more bags collected than ever before,” said Fuad Mansoor Sharaf, Senior Director – Property Management for Majid Al Futtaim Properties.
“I have previously participated in ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan' as a shopper, and was pleased this year to be able to become a supporter for the campaign and encourage my fans and members of the community to donate to those less fortunate in the UAE,” said Shamma Hamdan.
