Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Hosts Emirati Writer's Day Celebrations Featuring Prominent Writers and Creators

Dubai, UAE, 16 May, 2026: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will celebrate Emirati Writer’s Day next Friday, 22 May, 2026, through a cultural program bringing together authors, writers, creatives, and national cultural institutions. The program features a series of panel discussions, workshops, and interactive exhibitions. This celebration supports the Library’s efforts to promote Emirati literature and spotlight national cultural achievements.
The program will begin with a session titled Emirati Voices in the Global Cultural Landscape: From Sheikh Zayed Book Award, featuring speakers from the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre. The session will discuss the presence of Emirati writers within the contemporary media and cultural scene, as well as the role of media platforms in highlighting local creativity.
The day will also feature a session titled Nurturing the Writer: Qalam Creative Writing Program as a Model, which highlights the role of local institutions in empowering Emirati writers, while showcasing the experiences of participants in the Qalam Creative Writing Program launched by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre.
In collaboration with the Emirates Writers Union, an award ceremony will be held honouring the winners of the Ghanem Ghobash Short Story Award, celebrating emerging literary talents in the UAE.
In collaboration with Dubai National Theatre, the event program will include a panel discussion titled Playwriting Between Idea and Performance. The session will address theatrical writing and its relationship to stage performance and artistic expression.
Meanwhile, Sandooq Al Watan will participate with a session titled Voices from the Emirati Cultural Scene, highlighting inspiring cultural experiences that have shaped the local creative landscape.
The Library is also organising a brainstorming session titled “The Future of Emirati Literature,” featuring a distinguished group of writers, intellectuals, and cultural enthusiasts. The session will explore the transformations shaping the local literary landscape and examine the future of Emirati writing in light of digital advancement and the evolving interests of younger generations.
The program will also feature several workshops, including The Young Writers workshop presented by Emirati author Reem Al Gurg, Arabic Calligraphy workshop in collaboration with calligrapher Ali Al Hammadi, as well as a The Art of Gilding workshop presented by the Sharjah Museums Authority.
Furthermore, the Library will host accompanying cultural exhibitions, most notably the Arabic Calligraphy exhibition and Huroof Arabiya magazine exhibition, organised by the Dubai Cultural and Scientific Association, in addition to showcasing issues of Kitab magazine published by the Sharjah Book Authority.
This celebration reflects the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library’s commitment to its cultural and intellectual role in supporting Emirati literature, strengthening the presence of Emirati writers locally and across the Arab region, and promoting reading and creativity as essential elements of national cultural identity.
