Dubai. Roads and Transport Authority. 12th May 2026:
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has updated the driver training curriculum for applicants seeking a light vehicle driving licence, in line with advancements in modern vehicle systems equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
The updated training curriculum covers forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane support systems, parking assist systems for designated spaces, night vision systems, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), conventional and adaptive cruise control, and other advanced technologies featured in modern vehicles.
Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Drivers Licensing at RTA, stated that the updates to the driver training curriculum for light vehicle licence applicants align with internationally recognised standards set by CIECA. He noted that the initiative aims to enhance road safety, guide and promote driver behaviour, and reduce traffic accidents.
Al Akraf added: “These updates form part of RTA’s commitment to implementing global best practices in modern driving methods for light vehicle drivers. The revised curriculum has been introduced in collaboration with driving institutes and integrated into the driver handbook, as well as the theoretical and practical training programmes and awareness lectures provided to licence applicants.”
The updates align with RTA’s mission, strategic goals and objectives, future directions, and adoption of global best practices, particularly in enhancing road safety, enabling safe and flexible mobility, and developing innovative and sustainable services that elevate the customer experience to global standards.
“The updated curriculum enables drivers to stay informed of the latest developments in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and international training programmes, within a continuous learning framework that keeps pace with the evolution of modern vehicle technologies.”
“More than 250,000 trainees have benefited from the updated training curriculum in recent years. Workshops have also been organised for driving institutes across Dubai to ensure comprehensive coverage of advanced driving systems, tailored to the specifications of training vehicles.”
