- 48 teams confirmed for 3x3 basketball title in crucial matches in 13th the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament
- Al Samaawi team continues winning streak before facing Yazar in the volleyball championship
DUBAI: The final battlelines of the Wheelchair Basketball tournament will be drawn today (Monday, March 2) with the Dubai Police team taking on Dubai Courts, while Dubai Municipality face RTA in the 13th Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament.
Touted the premier sporting event during the holy month of Ramadan, this annual tournament is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, under the slogan “Unlimited Capabilities”.
The Dubai Police General Command team will meet the Dubai Courts team at 10 pm, while the Road Transport Authority (RTA) will take on Dubai Municipality at 11.30 pm at the Dubai Club for People of Determination in Al Ghusais. The two winners will meet in the final that will be held at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex, on Wednesday (March 4).
With two emphatic wins earlier, Dubai Courts maintained a clean sheet following a 24-15 win against Aswan Real Estate to top Group A and seal their place in the last four stages. They will be joined by Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) team who qualified after winning two of its three matches to end second in Group A.
The Dubai Police General Headquarters also made it to the semi-finals from Group B after defeating the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship 42-14, having previously defeated the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
They were joined by Dubai Municipality who secured a 52-25 win against DEWA in their last group match. Dubai Municipality is considered the strongest contender for the championship title, having achieved the highest number of points and the largest points difference among all teams, scoring 177 and conceding 68.
Intense 3x3 Basketball contest
The 3x3 Basketball tournament, held at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex, is witnessing intense competition as it nears its final stages. As many as 48 teams are in the fray with 24 teams in the men's competition and 12 teams each in the women's and under-17 categories.
Zabeel 1 and Zaaeel 2 will be joined by 3x3 Dubai and Black List in the last four stages of the 3x3 Basketball competition. The finalists will be determined within the next two days, with the final taking place on Friday (March 6).
Volleyball continues
Meanwhile, Al Samawi topped their group after defeating Fahoud Zabeel 3-1 (26-24, 25-21, 30-28, 25-23) in the second round. Al Samawi will next face Yazar at 9 pm today (Monday).
Exciting tug-of-war
The tug-of-war championship, featuring 25 teams across three categories - Government Departments and Institutions, Juniors and Community – got under from Sunday (March 1).
The government departments and institutions category includes defending champions the National Guard, the Ministry of Defence, the Air Force, Dubai Civil Defence and Dubai Police. The juniors category includes the Sharjah Amiri Guard Sports Club, A25 Gym, Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club and Sharjah Police Science Academy. Everyone is expecting intense competition in the junior category.
In the community category, 12 teams are participating and these have been divided into four groups. The first group includes AJ Mustafa 1, Transguard, Al Jawarih and W World Gym. The second group includes Raptor Gym, IFBB Sports Academy, AJ Mustafa 2 and Al Muqatiloon. The third group includes Al Ajban, Wasl, Avalar and Dutco Construction Group, while the fourth group includes Level Up, Global, Mangalore Warriors and Olympia.
The 13th Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament now approaches its business end with the Tug-of-War continuing with its preliminary rounds till the final on March 6. The ever-popular volleyball competition that started on February 26 will witness the semi-finals on March 5, followed by the third-placed match on March 6 and the final on March 7.
The organising committee has urged the general public to attend the padel and volleyball competitions from the stands of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex, enjoy watching the exciting competitions, while also giving themselves the chance to win luxury cars, smartphones and other valuable prizes through the daily raffle draws.
