Abu Dhabi, August 27, 2025:
His Excellency Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, stated that Emirati Women’s Day is a highly significant national occasion, during which the UAE reflects on the groundbreaking achievements of its women, made possible by the nation’s visionary leadership. “Emirati women have played a crucial role in our comprehensive development,” H.E. said, highlighting their contributions to nurturing generations, strengthening national identity, and fostering community values.
H.E. also praised the inspiring examples set by Emirati women leaders who continue to excel on regional and global stages - most notably Shaikha Al Nowais, who made history as the first woman to be appointed Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. This landmark achievement stands as a powerful testament to the UAE’s leadership in empowering women and strengthening their global presence.
His Excellency highlighted that this year’s celebration of Emirati Women’s Day under the theme “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years” carries profound national and humanitarian significance. It reflects the spirit of collaboration that defines the UAE’s unique model in empowering Emirati women, who today hold esteemed positions across various fields - thanks to the unwavering support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Mother of the Nation.
H.E. added: "Thanks to the UAE’s exceptional efforts, Emirati women have become key players in the national business, investment, and SME sectors. As of the end of July 2025, a total of 128,482 commercial licenses across the country are held by Emirati women, marking a 15% increase from July 2024 and an impressive 155% rise compared to that of July 2020. Their operations span a wide array of economic and investment activities, including e-commerce, tourism, technology, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and sports."
H.E. explained that the Ministry of Economy and Tourism continues to implement supportive economic policies to boost female participation in diverse sectors. A recent ministerial decision mandates that private shareholding companies reserve at least one board seat for women. This strategic move is designed to foster diversity within the country’s business ecosystem and strengthen the UAE's standing in global competitiveness rankings, particularly in the area of gender balance.
