Dubai Municipality Preserves the Sustainability of Desert Areas' Cleanliness

December 15, 2021:  Dubai Municipality continues to implement its annual plan that targets preserving the cleanliness of these areas and raising awareness of its visitors through permanent field monitoring, cleaning work and using digital awareness methods; as part of its periodic plan to continue the sustainable cleaning of desert areas.

Dubai Municipality enhances its social responsibility to provide highest level of services and promotes the general cleanliness to global standards. This to preserve a sustainable and clean environment in Dubai including the desert areas, which the municipality focuses on it mostly during this period of time; visitors increasing during winter and low temperature weather. This emphasizes the importance of permanent fieldwork of cleaning following highest international standards. 

Awareness Campaign: 
Dubai Municipality has launched an awareness campaign prior the visiting season of desert areas last October, entitled “Our desert is Beautiful” under the slogan “Together for a Sustainable Clean Desert”. A film to educate the public on how properly and safely dispose the barbequing waste has produced and published through the municipality's social media platforms, in order to distribute the maximum awareness amongst society members. As part of the campaign program, 42 awareness field visits were conducted, benefiting more than 3,200 people in these areas. General hygiene requirements in desert areas and public awareness about disposing waste in designated places helps preserving the desert environment and the safety of its visitors.


Field Work:
Dubai Municipality is preserving the desert cleanliness with a specialized team that implements a daily cleaning program in Al Awir, the extension of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, Tripoli Street, Al Tayy area, the extension of Al Qudra Street, the third Al Rawya area, and the second Al Warsan areas, the third, Marghem Street, the tourist areas in Hatta, Al Qudra Lakes, the second Lehbab area and all other open areas in Dubai. 40 sign boards have been installed and about 220 tons of public waste have been removed from these areas since the beginning of last October until now. In addition to the implementation of 6 field volunteer activities in these sites, which witnessed the participation of more than 1,400 volunteers.
