Dubai, United Arab Emirates, July 06, 2020: GEMS Education students studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) have once again performed above international averages, as evidenced in the 2020 IB examination results released on 5 July. This year’s cohort achieved the best ever results for the GEMS network of schools, in terms of both pass rate and average points.
The performance of GEMS students continues to surpass international benchmarks, with an average point score of 34 this year, compared to the international average point score of 29.7 in 2019. The average pass rate across all GEMS schools was 94.5 per cent, significantly above the world average of 77.8 per cent.
A total of 524 students from seven GEMS schools sat the IB Diploma exams this year. These schools include GEMS World Academy – Dubai, GEMS International School – Al Khail, GEMS Dubai American Academy, GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis, GEMS Wellington International School, GEMS Modern Academy, and GEMS American Academy – Abu Dhabi.
Congratulating students on their achievement, David Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President – Education, GEMS Education, said: “We are incredibly proud of this year’s cohort of GEMS IB Diploma students and their results. Not only have they had to complete their secondary education in the most trying of circumstances, but they have also managed to collectively achieve our best ever IB Diploma results. Many of our students throughout GEMS are set to attend their first-choice university next year after receiving conditional offers from premium institutions. We are excited by what the future holds for these wonderful students and we wish them all the best in the next step of their educational journey.”
Standout results across the GEMS network include two students from GEMS Wellington International School and one student from GEMS Modern Academy achieving the highest point score possible of 45. GEMS Wellington International School also recorded a spectacular average score of 36.3 points, closely followed by GEMS World Academy – Dubai with 35.5 points in addition to a 100 per cent pass rate, and GEMS Modern Academy with 35.3 points.
