Certification marks the company’s fourth ISO mark in addition to OSHAS and the MENA first GC-Mark certification
Dubai, UAE, Sep 7th, 2019: Emirates District Cooling LLC [Emicool] – a leading district cooling service provider in the region and a wholly owned subsidiary of Dubai Investments PJSC, has been conferred with the fourth ISO certification – ISO 26000:2010.
Emicool was marked the first district cooling company across GCC with the ISO 26000:2010 for setting a high standard of corporate social responsibility governance, protecting worker and labour human rights, contributing towards saving and improving climate change as well as implementing code of ethics and advanced transparency systems.
Commenting on attaining the certification, Dr. Adib Moubadder, CEO of Emicool, said, " The ISO 26000:2010 acts as an important guide for the integration of our corporate social responsibility in the strategy, systems, practices, and processes of our organisation. To achieve the goals, we worked with a certified body to ensure that we are implementing the certification with transparency. We aim to continue contributing to global sustainable development by encouraging the initiation of socially responsible initiatives towards improving impacts on workers, natural environments, and communities alike.”
As part of the initiatives undertaken for the certification, Emicool converted its entire fleet of passenger cars to an all-electric fleet comprising the Renault Zoe. The move to replace the entire fleet with electric models aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 400 tonnes per year. The addition of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging spots also helped optimise the usage of the electric fleet.
Coupled with the sustainability initiative, Emicool’s support towards education, focusing on the science behind viable energy solutions, formed part of the certification assessment criteria. Emicool with University of Balamand (UOBD) facilitates collaboration and engagement in mutually beneficial opportunities for students by providing educational scholarships.
Emicool’s list of certifications are aimed at maintaining consistency and quality while redefining sustainability as an important aspect of conducting business. Emicool has been certified with the ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management System, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management System, and ISO 50001:2011, marking Emicool as the first district cooling company in the UAE with the Energy Management System certification.
Marking another first, Emicool was also conferred with the Global Conformity [GC-Mark] as a certified green company and the first district cooling company across the Middle East and North Africa. Last but not least, Emicool is also OSHAS-certified with the 18001:2007 for Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
Emicool currently provides district cooling services to over 22,000 customers in the UAE, with the most efficient and highest-quality infrastructure. The company is planning to increase its plant capacity to 500,000 tonnes of refrigeration by 2020, with rampant construction leading to pent-up demand for district cooling services across the UAE and the region.
Emicool has put forward strategic plans to transform many buildings in Dubai from conventional air-conditioning to district cooling, which will increase the market penetration of the district cooling concept.
