Dubai, 6 February 2018: DIFF365@VOX powered by du presents audiences ‘Cactus Flower' from award winning Egyptian director Hala Elkoussy at VOX Cinemas (cinema 9), Mall of the Emirates from 8 February – 21 February, 2018. ‘Cactus Flower' is the story of three strangers who come together after a banal catastrophe leaves them homeless in Cairo, a city on the verge.
‘Cactus Flower', supported by the Dubai Film Market's post-production and production support programme Enjaaz, received rave reviews from audiences and critics at DIFF's 14th edition in December with Menha El Batroui taking home Best Actress at the Festival's prestigious Muhr Awards in the Feature category for her outstanding performance.
The film follows the journey and personal struggles of three Egyptians. Aida is a struggling actress in her early thirties, from a provincial background. She finds herself on the streets of Cairo along with her elderly neighbour Samiha, a reclusive bourgeois. With no money and nowhere to go, the two women, aided by young Yassin, a street-savvy kid, embark on a journey to find shelter. An extraordinary friendship grows among the unlikely trio, a friendship comparable to a delicate flower blooming from a thorny cactus.
‘Cactus Flower' will screen at DIFF365@VOX Cinemas at the dedicated theatre (Cinema 9) at VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates in Dubai from 8 February – 21 February, 2018. Tickets are available online at the VOX website, uae.voxcinemas.com and at the box office at VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates.
