Dubai, UAE, December 17, 2017: On Thursday 14th December, Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC) presented Dubai IoT security standard to representatives from government and semi-government entities in the city of Dubai.
The development of this standard is an initiative introduced by the center that aims to provide entities with a set of basic security controls that they should refer to whenever a new IoT device or platform is deployed. The standard is built with consideration of the wide diversity of IoT devices and their corresponding capabilities.
Worth mentioning, is that this standard is the first of its kind as there aren’t any internationally recognized IoT security standards that go to the depth and breadth of this standard. It covers all the important security measures from authentication to cryptography and from data privacy to physical security.
The new security certification scheme for the cloud service providers was also introduced. Both IoT and cloud security standards sessions were highly interactive where the attendees exchanged comments and questions with the organizers from DESC.
Dr. Bushra, Research and Innovation manager at DESC mentioned that with the new standard for the IoT security, Dubai will be one of the first cities in the world leading IoT security regulations at the city level. This standard is aligned with Dubai Cyber Security Strategy that aims to continuously develop the relevant standards that will secure the recent technologies and challenges within the city of Dubai.
