Abu Dhabi, UAE, 19 April 2017: Etihad Rail employees visited the Wahat Al Karama memorial site in commemoration of the sacrifices made by the UAE’s brave martyrs. Wahat Al Karama, which means “the oasis of dignity”, is a permanent tribute to the Emiratis who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.
A group of staff members toured the national landmark to learn more about the heroes through the Memorial, the Pavilion of Honour and the Memorial Plaza which embody the values of unity, solidarity, and synergy that are deeply embedded into the UAE’s culture.
The tour began at the central memorial piece, comprising of aluminium tablets that lean on one another as a symbolic representation of the bond between citizens and the servicemen and women who protect them. Staff then spent a moment at the rear of the memorial where the Pledge of Allegiance of the UAE Armed Forces is engraved on the spine of a tablet.
The following stop was the Pavilion of Honour, which houses 196 aluminium plates on its inner walls inscribed with the name, rank, service branch, location and date of death of each Emirati hero.
“We are honoured to have had this opportunity to pay homage to the heroes of this nation,” said Etihad Rail CEO Eng. Faris Saif Al Mazrouei.
“Wahat Al Karama is a worthy commemoration of the sacrifices they made for the greater good of the country. It is important for us to remember them as their lives serve as an inspiration to all of us in our mission to further the development of our great nation.”
