• 28 partners across multiple expertise from private sector participated
• More than 1,000 volunteers of various nationalities and ages
Dubai 12, April 2017: His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai International Marine Club, and H.E. Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of Dubai Economy, today honoured private sector companies that contributed to the renovation project on Manar Al Eman Charity Private School in Ajman, which was the first project of the ‘Tarmeem' initiative — a collaboration between Dubai Economy and its strategic partner Omniyat Properties.
His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed commended the efforts made and the solid partnership between private and public sectors to ensure success for this humanitarian initiative, in line with the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to dedicate the year 2017 as the Year of Giving.
Dubai Economy launched Tarmeem in partnership with Omniyat Properties at the beginning of March to strengthen the social responsibility within the private sector. The project helped convert Manar Al Eman Charity Private school into a comprehensive educational facility that can address the needs of its students, who are all either orphans or from low income families. The school was handed over on 9th April, when the students returned from their spring holiday.

During the event, His Excellency Sami Al Qamzi, said: “This ceremony is an expression of our gratitude to the private sector for its contribution towards the renovation initiative, which reflects the strong partnership between the public and private sectors in doing good. I would also like to thank all volunteers who joined this initiative from schools, universities and individuals who have contributed to the success of this initiative”.
“Since the beginning, the number of private establishments participating in the initiative grew from 18 to 28 businesses in diverse sectors. The initiative also attracted nearly 1,000 volunteers belonging to different age groups and nationalities, demonstrating the keenness of the UAE community to give, and do good”, added Al Qamzi.
“‘Tarmeem' represents a synergy in fulfilling social responsibility, particularly between the public and private sectors as well as volunteers in our community. We chose this restoration programme in view of its significance in three vital areas – namely, consolidation of social responsibility in the private sector, supporting education, and promotion of voluntary work among community members,” commented Al Qamzi.
Al Qamzi noted that Dubai Economy and its agencies will launch a series of community initiatives involving different industry sectors, and will open the way for establishments to compete in giving and leaving their footprint in the domain of humanitarian work.
Mahdi Amjad, Omniyat's Executive Chairman and CEO said: “The Year of Giving is an opportunity for companies and individuals to help improve our society and community. We'd like to thank Dubai Economy for partnering with us in the Tarmeem initiative to renovate Manar Al Eman Charity Private School, which we hope has helped make a difference to the students and teachers at the school, and most importantly helped in providing an environment that encourages excellence and creativity.
“We accepted the challenge and in just two weeks we delivered a fantastic result, beyond what was initially planned. We collaborated with 28 partner companies who all gave their time, money and human talent and worked tirelessly to make this important project happen. The school now has the facilities and finishings that befit a proper private school.
“We will continue to align with the UAE and its leaders' vision and reinforce the progression of society in all possible ways. For the past 12 years, our direction at Omniyat was targeted towards creating and participating in social responsibility initiatives that support and embrace communities as well as individuals, especially in the field of education. We are keen on investing in educational projects because it is considered the key foundation from which spread science, knowledge and culture.
“Omniyat has launched the Zaha Hadid Fellowship at Harvard University to honour the late Zaha Hadid and give the chance for young Arab architects to study in one of the best Architecture schools in the world. We have also contributed to Dubai Cares. And now, participating in this project in the Year of Giving was a humble way of saying thank you to this great country.”
Saeed Al Bloushi, CEO of Manar Al Eman Charity Private School, said: “We offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to Dubai Economy, Omniyat Properties and all their partners who worked on renovating the school. This project confirms the generosity of the people of the UAE. We thank all volunteers and community members for encouraging volunteer work in the country, as it is one of the main aspects for the Year of Giving”.
The refurbishment, which took just a month to complete, included the complete restoration of 22 classrooms, construction of a brand-new playground, new windows and doors throughout, and full installation of air-conditioning, new medical facilities and a new entrance lobby.
