UAE, February 28, 2017- The Department of Economic Development - Ajman (DED-Ajman) recently held a joint meeting with the Ministry of Economy and representatives of local outlets and trading establishments to discuss and coordinate the joint activities and initiatives to be implemented during the coming 12th edition of Gulf Consumer Protection Day, which is scheduled to be celebrated on March 1, 2017. The move complements the department's continuing commitment towards providing key support in the area of consumer protection, which is deemed as an essential need in the efforts to maintain and reinforce the stability of the markets and the country's economy--leading to a fair and competitive business environment.
According to Mohamed Masoud Al Kutbi, Director for the Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection, DED-Ajman, the meeting represents a strategic opportunity to define the joint framework for the coming Gulf Consumer Protection Day celebrations. The Director emphasized that consumer protection is widely recognized as a common responsibility for both regulators, on one hand, and outlets and trading establishments, on the other.
Al Kutbi also noted that the meeting saw the discussion of important issues related to consumer protection and market stability, adding that a list of fixed-price products to be followed for the full year was also approved and released. The meeting also saw the exchange of views and insights on how to effectively and quickly address complaints issued by consumers, which is considered a significant element to protecting the rights of both the consumer and investor. The Director stated, “DED-Ajman is keen on its move to consolidate its coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Economy to take the necessary steps needed in ensuring the protection of rights of consumers and to further drive economic growth for Ajman and the whole of UAE.”
