UAE, February 27, 2017 - The Department of Economic Development - Ajman (DED-Ajman) has successfully implemented an intensive inspection campaigns aimed towards combating the proliferation of unauthorized roaming vendors across Ajman, particularly in key areas like Alhilliu, Mowiahat, Rowdha and Tella. The efforts are part of a continuing control campaign supervised by the Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection, DED-Ajman.
Mohamed Masoud Al Kutbi, Director for the Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection, DED-Ajman, emphasized on the dangers and risks posed by unauthorized roaming vendors--especially in terms of safety and security as the products being offered by these illegal vendors do not carry the necessary health certifications from the proper government authorities. The questionable safety of these products and its suitability for trading and consumption can leave a negative impact on Ajman's business climate. In addition, the vehicles being used by these unauthorized roaming vendors creates overcrowding and congestion along the streets where their illegal goods are being peddled.
Al Kutbi shared that the apprehended vendors were ordered to refrain from their illegal trading activity and were asked to sign a waiver promising that they would not commit these offenses in the future. If caught again, these unauthorized vendors would be subject to punitive sanctions, including payment of fines, confiscation of the illegal goods and impounding of the vehicles used in their operations. The move is aimed towards further maintaining consumer safety in the emirate.
The Director urged all consumers and vendors to avoid purchasing or entering into any transaction with these unauthorized vendors and should check if the products being sold are carrying the necessary health certifications from the proper government authorities--ensuring the authenticity of the products and its suitability for human consumption.
