“Comedy Superstar” sheds comical light on Abu Dhabi Summer Season

-    Four members of comedy royalty come together in the entertainment event of the year - 

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – 5 September 2016:   The show “Comedy Superstar” promises a night of spectacular comedic relief, as four members of American comedy royalty Eddie Griffin, Carlos Mencia, Charlie Murphy and Arie Spears, take to the stage at Al Raha Beach Theatre on September 9th 2016. The show is organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority in partnership with Yak Events as part of this year’s Abu Dhabi Summer Season. 

Kansas City-born actor and comedian Eddie Griffin, honoured by Comedy Central as one of the Top 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians of all time, has garnered an illustrious career in Hollywood and on the stand-up comedy circuit. Best known for portraying the character “Eddie Sherman” on television sitcom Malcolm & Eddie, as well as his leading roles in a series of comedic motion pictures including Undercover Brother and Double Take, Griffin’s unapologetically funny expressions on stage and in character have seen him enjoy success at the Hollywood box office and on tour with fellow stand-up comedians. 

Actor, comedian, voice over artist and writer Charlie Murphy, is no stranger to comedy, debuting on the mainstream comedy circuit as the cast of Dave Chappelle’s Chappelle’s Show, and movies Night at the Museum (2006), Norbit (2007). Known as the brother of Hollywood royalty Eddie Murphy, Charlie has spent the last 10 years performing his critically acclaimed stand-up comedy routines across the United States, Europe and Canada. Murphy, through gracing stages across the world, has done well to cement his position as a highly acclaimed international comedy star and comedic triple threat, showcasing his talents in acting, writing and producing across his projects. 

Carlos Mencia draws crowds by honing in on his style of comedy which typically addresses issues of race, culture, justice and socioeconomic as they relate to communities in America. The Honduran born American Actor also started his career in stand-up comedy at the highly popular Laugh Factory, before finding success on the Los Angeles comedy circuit. In addition to touring internationally Mencia has received acclaim for his work in writing material for television pilot projects and comedy specials. 

To round off the list of stage entertainment giants coming to Abu Dhabi is Chicago native Arie Spears. Best known for his role and raw comedy on the popular American sketch show Mad TV, Spears has working with some of the industry’s best over the years, Spears is well established for his special appearances, pop culture parodies and comedic acts across a variety of stages and television channels. 

Comedy Superstar promises an outstanding line up of celebrity comedians to the amusement of stand-up comedy enthusiasts. Abu Dhabi can expect a night of roaring laughter, spectacular jokes and societal commentary characterised by hilarity and animated expression. 

Abu Dhabi Summer Season 2016 spanning from 7th July to 11th September, 2016, is an exciting programme of world-class international theatre shows, comedy acts, concerts, circus performances, and more that will be held at venues across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.
