24 February 2016. Dubai, UAE: BurJuman has announced that it has made a AED 100,000 donation to Al Jalila Foundation to mark the success of the BurJuman Safe & Sound App for Breast Cancer Awareness. Launched as part of the 2015 Safe & Sound campaign, the app invited subscribers in the UAE and beyond to support the cause by tracking their walks and runs - with BurJuman pledging to make the donation if the total distance passed the 50 , 000 km milestone by the end of 2015.
Al Jalila Foundation joined BurJuman as official charity partner for the 2015 Safe & Sound Campaign . Founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the global philanthropic organization is dedicated to transforming lives through medical research and education . Funds raised for Al Jalila Foundation through the Safe & Sound partnership go directly toward breast cancer treatment and research in the UAE, generating further awareness about the disease and supporting patient care through the foundation’s affiliation with the UAE’s only breast cancer support group, Brest Friends.
The BurJuman Safe & Sound App was a new initiative for the Safe & Sound campaign, which is now in its 19 th year . The app harnesses the latest mobile technology to meet the needs of the digital age - its purpose was to provide even more flexibility, touch more lives than ever before and ensure that the Safe & Sound message of prevention through self detection, continued long after October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month came to a close . Alongside tracking their walks and runs for the cause, participants were invited to donate directly to Al Jalila Foundation through the app’s payment gateway . The total distance walked by participants currently stands at 55 , 170 km, since its launch.
‘We are incredibly proud to have reached this major milestone for the BurJuman Safe & Sound App,’ says Mr Majid Saif Al Ghurair , President of BurJuman , CEO of Al Ghurair Group . ‘The amount of steps logged on the app is testament to the ongoing support we have received throughout the campaign, and reflects our mission to reach as many people as we can with our message . We are positive that the money raised for Al Jalila Foundation through Safe & Sound will have a profound impact on breast cancer research in the UAE, and will offer the vital treatment and support needed to empower women and their families in the fight against this disease. ’
‘At Al Jalila Foundation, we are committed to offering hope and support to women whose lives are affected by breast cancer,’ says Dr Raja Easa Saleh Al Gurg , Member of the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Al Jalila Foundation. ‘The money raised through the BurJuman Safe & Sound App, alongside the generous donation pledged by BurJuman , will fund the local research which is so important in our aim to understand breast cancer and its increased prevalence throughout the region.’
