HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer receives Abdulla Al Shaibani during DEWA's Innovation Week activities

Dubai, UAE, 24 November 2015: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority received Abdulla Al Shaibani, Secretary General of the Dubai Executive Council during his visit to the Innovation Week activities that DEWA is organising as part of the UAE’s Innovation Week from 22- 28 November, in line with the announcement of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, that 2015 is the Year of Innovation, and to support the National Innovation Strategy of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the United Arab Emirates Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and the directive of His Highness to organise UAE Innovation Week.
Innovation week includes 30 activities and initiatives launched by DEWA in cooperation with its partners, universities, entrepreneurs, and innovators in energy and water, in participation with international speakers on energy, sustainability, water and innovation.
Al Tayer and Al Shaibani, with Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Business Development, Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications at DEWA, Dr. Ammar Al Mazroui, Senior Manager of Creativity & Innovation at DEWA, and Ahmed Abdullah, Senior Manager of External Communications at DEWA, toured the exhibition in participation with DEWA’s employees and innovators, and emerging companies to have a look on the latest inventions that could enhance DEWA’s operations and implementation in real life, including conptual products and services and the latest research and technical concepts.
Al Tayer thanked Al Shaibani for his considerable role in enhancing the communication between Dubai Executive Council and DEWA. He hailed the organisation of the UAE Innovation Week, which affirms the UAE’s wise government’s commitment under the leadership of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and his brother HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and preparing an inspiring environment for innovation.”
“All government and private organisations in the UAE are combining their efforts to achieve the directives of of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, that 2015 is the Year of Innovation, and to support the National Innovation Strategy of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the United Arab Emirates Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make the UAE one of the most innovative nations in the world,” said Al Shaibani.
Abdulla Al Shaibani hailed the activities of DEWA Innovation Week and its diversity, DEWA’s leading role to achieve the vision and strategy of the wise leadership, and its work to make the UAE a leader in energy and renewable energy.
The innovation week includes various innovative activities and events that reflect its vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, including the Government Innovation Lab during which real-life tools are used to promote innovation. DEWA also organises the ‘Design Thinking Lab’ that includes a group of workshops for three days to discuss the challenges that DEWA faces, and identifying innovative ways to overcome them, using the ‘Better Today’ design thinking methods. DEWA also is hosting the fifth Creativity and Innovation Conference with international experts talking about innovation that focuses on sustainability, renewable energy and water. DEWA is also organising a Robotics competition, called Build-It-Yourself Robotics Kits, for students from the 6 to high-school age. The robot kits are equipped with sustainable innovative gadgets, such as solar panels, sensors, chargeable batteries, and programmable microcontrollers.
The activities also include the launching of ‘My Innovation’ (Ibtikari in Arabic) to encourage innovators and designers from the UAE and abroad to offer innovations via smart platforms that include scientific and engineering competitions for university students and engineers to look for scientific solutions and innovations in sustainability, water and different innovations related to DEWA’s field of operations.
