ISAS students better prepared for emergencies

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (November 16, 2015): In order to better prepare school staff and management in an unlikely event of emergency, the International School of Arts and Sciences (ISAS) recently held a mock fire drill conducted by the Dubai Civil Defence. The drill, lasting more than an hour, was aimed at testing the rescue capabilities of police, civil defence and the safety and security team at the school.

The exercise attempted to acclimatize students and staff with the necessary precautions to be observed in the event of an untoward incident. The school environment presents unique challenges to the Civil Defence team, as the rescue work is also dedicated towards comforting the students and ensuring that large groups of children are swiftly maneuvered out of the premises to safety. The operation also deals with the importance of updating parents on the safety of their wards. 

Techniques of resuscitation and tending to the injured were also demonstrated, along with teaching the do’s and don’ts during emergency evacuation and the importance of preparedness at all times. It also encouraged students to share the vital learnings with others.

Apart from testing the preparedness of the school, the drill was followed by a visit to the Rashidia fire station for the younger students to provide them with an up-close and personal interaction with the Civil Defence team who inspired them with their dedication to saving lives and insulating societies from potential damage caused by unfortunate incidences.
