It's Dyslexia Awareness Week

Lexicon Reading Center invites schools in Dubai to take part in a Free Screening Project and will host workshops for the public

Dubai, UAE – 05 October 2015: Lexicon Reading Center has today announced a new project in which schools throughout Dubai can apply to have between 15-100 students screened for dyslexia and dysgraphia. This comes during Dyslexia Awareness Week (October 4 to 8) as the centre aims to emphasise the importance of early diagnosis and intervention of the learning difficulty within the five to seven age group.

Selected schools will be offered the opportunity to host individual screening session at their school, which will help to identify children at risk. Mr. Rudolf Stockling Msc (Psych), clinical director at Lexicon Reading Center will communicate the screening results with the school and run an information session for teachers or parents of that school.

As part of Dyslexia Awareness Week, on Wednesday 7th October, Mr Stockling is also offering the public to attend a free workshop entitled 'Understanding Psych-Educational Reports'. Hosted at Cassells Hotel AlBarsha, Mr Stockling will talk about diagnosis, helping people understand what that may mean for learning development, and the options available for treatment. 

To date in 2015, Lexicon Learning Center is responsible for assessing over 200 cases of Dyslexia in children alone within the UAE, and is responsible for the intervention of between 100-150 people with the learning difficulty.

Mr. Rudolf Stockling Msc (Psych), clinical director at Lexicon Reading Center, said “Early diagnosis ensures early treatment, which ultimately improves a child’s chance to reach their full academic potential. We hope that people take notice of Dyslexia Awareness Week and help to spread the word throughout the region, exposing learning difficulties throughout the UAE and introducing new ways of learning.”

On the 20th October, Professor Nancy Cushen-White, a clinical professor at the University of California and a director of the US-based Slingerland Institute, will run a further free workshop for the public on the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. Dr Steve Chinn and Malcolm Litten, two of the UK’s leading experts on dyslexia, are then conducting a concluding workshop on the 11th November.
