Once Upon A Time: Celebrate Eid with ‘A Day in Bloomingdale's-Dubai'

Dubai, September 8, 2015: This September, Bloomingdale’s-Dubai takes you on a fanciful journey with launch of its first dedicated children’s book, A Day in Bloomingdale’s –Dubai, authored and illustrated by Dubai-based artist, Sara Japanwalla. Written exclusively for and about the upscale international department store, customers purchasing merchandise in the Kidswear Department from September 17  – 26 will receive the book as a complimentary gift for Eid Al Adha. An animated preview will also be available online.

The protagonist of this fun novel is Sophie, a little girl who accompanies her mom on a shopping trip to the iconic department store. Feeling dismayed and bored, Sophie falls into deep slumber while her mom shops; her imagination brings to life a mannequin who takes her on an exciting fashion-filled quest to the Womenswear and Beauty Departments where Sophie gets dolled up, trying out a selection of lovely dresses and make-up.

“I wanted to create a book about Bloomingdales-Dubai, but it was very important for it to have a whimsical element even though it's a promotional book. I grew up in the 80's and always loved watching fantasy movies like BIG and Splash.  I really liked the movie Mannequin and how Kim Cattrall's character kept switching into real life and back to her original form, so I was inspired from that concept,” says Japanwalla.

Sophie and her new friend’s expedition continues into Bloomingdale’s Home-Dubai, where they are enticed by a selection delectable and scrumptious delights in Magnolia Bakery as Sophie explores an exquisite array of furnishings and decorative accessories for her make-believe palace far away.

The book celebrates style while introducing young readers to one of Dubai’s shopping landmarks and is replete with drawings of imaginative creations.

“I wanted to the end of the story to remain slightly ambiguous and end with a touch of magic,” says Japanwalla.

A Day in Bloomingdale’s-Dubai will be redeemable upon purchase from September 17 –26, 2015, exclusively in the Kidswear Department located on the Second Floor at Bloomingdale’s-Dubai, The Dubai Mall.
