Women Sports Department at the Sharjah Ladies Club hosts summer sports camp in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development
Sharjah, 17 August 2015: As part of the ‘Saif Beladi 2015’ national program, The Women Sports Department at the Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) is hosting a summer sports camp under the slogan ‘Fun and Innovation’. The camp, for boys from the age of 5-9 years and girls from the age of 6-15 years, is sponsored by ‘Saif Beladi’ and Al Montazah Park which will provide free passes to their Water Park, and Ferrari World is offering five VIP entry tickets to be won.
The SLC has announced that the camp will include a variety of recreational, educational and cultural programs and events, in addition to competitions in archery, basketball, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, and karate under the supervision of certified trainers, as well as two trips to the Sharjah Discovery Center and the Sharjah Center for Astronomy and Space Sciences as part of the camp program. The aim is to raise awareness about the importance of exercise for children, increase the participation of boys and girls in sports, and provide safe places for children to spend their free time during the summer vacation over a four week period.
For the first time the camp will include activities related to culinary arts held in cooperation with the café at the Golf & Shooting Club. Children can enjoy watching shows by chefs at the Shooting Café, who will prepare a variety of delicious recipes, including healthy meals, desserts, and snacks. During the shows, children will be given advice, guidance, and information about good food patterns that help to keep them healthy and increase concentration and comprehension.
The camp is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development and the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, in line with efforts made by the UAE to support and develop the skills of youths, children, and teenagers, and help them maintain their physical health. It is also the objective of the Women Sports Department to spread awareness about the importance of exercise for all segments of society, especially women and children.
Nada Bin Askar Al Naqbi, Director of the Women Sports Department at SLC, said, “We share a common vision and goal with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development and the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare which is why we are hosting the summer sports camp under the "Saif Beladi 2015" national program. As part of this strategic relationship we seek to develop the sports, cultural, and intellectual skills and talent of young men and women, children, and teenagers.”
Al Naqbi urges parents to enroll their children in the camp, stressing that the activities and programs play a significant role in the development of children's skills and instills in them a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and patriotism. “It also helps expand their intellectual and mental capacities and refine their characters as well as consolidates their moral and social values. And without a doubt the children have a very good time over the four week program,” she added.
Enrollment at the camp is still available and so far the number of participants has reached 125 boys and girls. The camp activities will continue until the 27 August. His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, directed that all centers and clubs participating in the program at the state level operate at full capacity to accommodate the largest possible number of registered participants in the ninth session of the "Saif Beladi 2015" national program.
The Women Sports Department in Sharjah was established in 2008, through a directive issued by the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of Sharjah Ladies Club. It is the first department in the Emirate of Sharjah concerned with women’s sports both at the local and regional level. The aim is to build a distinctive athletic women’s society that can compete and win titles in regional and international sports competitions, by encouraging the building of women’s sports teams, and ensuring the provision of an infrastructure conducive to achieving the set objectives.
