Dubai, United Arab Emirates, June 15, 2015: Al-Futtaim Motors, exclusive distributor of Toyota in the UAE, today announced the handover of an additional 55 Toyota Hybrid Camry to Cars Taxi Group of companies, growing the fleet of existing Toyota Hybrid Camry vehicles between Dubai and Abu Dhabi to 100 vehicles, in line with the company’s goals of running an environmentally-friendly taxi transportation solutions in the country.
In September last year, the two organizations signed an agreement that saw Cars Taxi introduce Hybrid Camry vehicles to the nation’s capital, the first time such technology has been used in the capital, as part of Cars Taxi’s expansion plans for their hybrid fleet.
The announcement was made at a press conference attended by Jon Williams, Managing Director at Al-Futtaim Motors, Yousuf Al Raeesi, General Manager Government Relations, Mohammed Hassan, Head of Corporate Sales at Al-Futtaim Motors, Abdullah Sultan Al Sabbagh, CEO at Cars Taxi Group, Abdul Razak, General Manager at Cars Taxi Group, and a number of senior officials from key government institutions and members of the press.
“The Toyota Hybrid Camry has proven its credentials the world over. In the UAE, the car has performed admirably in the field, speeding up the cycle of reaching the Dubai Vision 2021 goals of a more sustainable society, while contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and increasing our reliance of renewable energy sources rather than fossil fuels,” said Williams.
Cars Taxi, a major private taxi company, conducted a study on the first fleet of 29 Toyota Hybrid Camry and saw a substantial 31% reduction in fuel savings per car over a period of 13 months, where the average hybrid vehicle saved around AED 1,200 per month in fuel cost. Over a period of 4 years, the study found that total savings per vehicle would exceed AED 55,000.
“Our initial fleet of 29 Hybrid Camry vehicles has saved more than 278,916 litres of fuel over a period of 13 months, saving approximately 47g per kilometer in CO2 emission in the process, a significant benefit to the UAE environment. For us, the cost savings are substantial, with over AED 500,000 in fuel cost savings per year. This definitely makes the Hybrid Camry our preferred fleet choice across the UAE, offering not only considerable reduction in fuel, but also helping to meet decreased emissions requirements,” said Abdullah Sultan.
The Hybrid Camry also offers fleet operators expansive savings on maintenance costs thanks to even better Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) when compared to traditional fuel-powered vehicles, with less wear and tear and decreased service requirements.
Globally, cumulative Toyota hybrid vehicles sales have surpassed 7 million, resulting in approximately 49 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions—believed to be a cause of global warming—than would have been emitted by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance. Toyota also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 18 million kiloliters of gasoline compared to the amount used by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar sizes.
