In celebration of the 30-year-anniversary of the Argentinian brand, undisputed leader of the “polo system”, planned a revival of the first classic polo shirt. The item has become an icon of a lifestyle that is increasingly popular worldwide.
Made exclusively out of Pima of the best quality, the cotton variety with the extra-long staple fibers, extremely absorbent and resistant, only to be found in Peru, “The White Polo Shirt” by La Martina is a hymn to the origins of the brand and to the game of polo.
Few people know that the first tournaments were played in shirts which were perfectly white. Even the “button down” collar dates back to this custom, preventing the collar’s tips from bouncing into players’ faces during the ride.
After the shirt's candor, replaced
by the polo shirt, which was a per- fect balance between sportsmanship and elegance, the playing kit was decorated with applications. These were made of colored fabric with distinctive embroideries, in order to distinguish between the teams and celebrate the venues of the most presti- gious tournaments.
Such is also the origin of La Martina.
Everything began when Lando Simonetti, founder and art director of the brand, founded a polo team in Argentina, one of the “homes” of the game.To create the playing kits and matching accessories was a necessity rather than a business in the fashion clothing sector. However the polo shirts became so popular that it was impossible not to sell them to the fans and enthusiasts following the teams. Demand soared and soon it was necessary to produce the playing kits of many other teams. Thus “The White Polo Shirt” stands for the return to the first original polo shirt, always ready to “dress” the colors of any team of the world.
Nowadays La Martina is indeed the world’s first official supplier, with over 80 tour- naments supported every year for a total of approximately 360 dressed teams.
