DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (29 April, 2015) – Thermo Fisher, the world leader in serving science, today welcomed customers from across the Middle East region to its newly opened Customer Experience Centre (CEC) in Dubai.
Located at DuBiotech, the region’s major life sciences hub, the 7,000 square foot facility expands Thermo Fisher’s ability to serve customers throughout the region through demonstration and training. The CEC will offer training opportunities and technological and applications support to customers including healthcare providers, educational institutions, food and beverage companies and researchers. Thermo Fisher will also collaborate with local universities to support and train the region’s new generation of scientists.
“We are pleased to welcome a multinational player such as Thermo Fisher to join DuBiotech. As a free zone, we look forward to offering the company the flexibility to evolve and operate while enjoying our conveniently located, world-class facilities,” said Marwan Abdulaziz, Executive Director, DuBiotech and EnPark, part of TECOM Investments. “Undoubtedly, Thermo Fisher's expertise will go a long way in assisting customers with ongoing investments in the health, food, biotechnology and research end markets. The company's cross-industry work and network of global experiences is just what Dubai's young talent needs to progress and develop interests in this space."
“The opening of our Customer Experience Centre in the UAE marks an important milestone in our growth strategy in the Middle East,” added Syed Jafry, senior vice president and president, Asia-Pacific and Emerging Markets for Thermo Fisher Scientific. “With the help of our trusted channel partners, we are here to support the growing customer base and their evolving demands.”
Thermo Fisher’s expansion in the Middle East coincides with an increase in demand for the advancement of life sciences and related fields in the region. For example, spending on healthcare is expected to rise by an average of 10 percent annually across the Middle East and Africa. The UAE’s medical tourism sector grew to US$1.69 billion in 2013. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia is implementing five major healthcare projects in “medical cities’, worth over US$500 million.
