United Arab Emirates, 9 April 2015 – Leading dermatological practitioners gathered at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) this week to share and explore the latest techniques and technologies in dermatology and anti-ageing – from pain-free lasers to gene-altering light treatments - in a series of workshops held alongside the annual Dubai Derma conference.
During the workshops at the AACSH’s education facilities, doctors from across the globe demonstrated the latest revolutionary techniques in Botox and dermal fillers, a revolutionary ‘gene-altering’ light treatment and a ground-breaking ‘thread’ facelift.
According to recent statistics issued today by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH), the hospital’s top five non-invasive facial procedures in 2014 revealed as Botox (37%), Dermal fillers (18%), Platelet Rich Plasma treatment (18%), laser hair removal (13%) and laser treatment for skin rejuvenation (12%).
The most popular non-invasive body treatment by far at the AACSH in 2014 was Velashape (a non-invasive treatment using infrared light, bi-polar radio frequency energy and vacuum pressure to contour, shape and slim the body and improve cellulite) which constituted a staggering 65% of all non-invasive body procedures carried out at the hospital - a huge 191% increase from 2013 statistics. Following Velashape was LPG (lipo-massage) with 12%, CaCi (facial and body toning) with 12% and, with 7%, Zeltiq (non-surgical ‘cool-sculpting’ fat reduction).
Dr. Burcu Hurbas, Head of Dermatology and Anti-Aging Department at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital and a Specialist Dermatologist, comments on the findings: “Non-invasive anti-ageing technologies are advancing at an astonishing pace, with new techniques and procedures introduced on an increasingly frequent basis. At AACSH, we pride ourselves on leading the UAE non-surgical cosmetic landscape in offering the latest techniques by the very best practitioners from across the globe. For example, many aesthetic medicine providers offer Botox but at the AACSH, we look at every patient’s face and assess the skin type, the balance of features and use the latest injectable techniques to avoid pain and bruising or swelling, and when injecting dermal fillers, we use cannulas instead of needles, which results in less bruising for patients.
“We are also pioneering the latest non-surgical facelift technique - the ‘thread lift’. This procedure is non-injectable and instead uses absorbable ‘threads’ to lift areas of the face and body such as the neck, lower mid-face, eyebrows and, on the body, the breasts, arms and thighs.
“I anticipate an increase in our patients exploring the anti-ageing results they can achieve from non-invasive, painless laser and light technologies which offer quick, natural and lasting results with less downtime.”
Leading dermatologist from Stanford University School of Medicine, Dr. Patrick H. Bitter, Jr. – regarded as the pioneer in the use of pulsed light technology for skin rejuvenation - also visited the hospital this week to demonstrate his latest anti-ageing, gene-altering light treatment Sciton BroadBand Light (BBL™).
“Two studies I have recently published showed very powerful evidence of the anti-ageing benefits of BBL. In the first study, three easy, no-downtime BBL treatments were able to reverse the gene expression of 70-year-old skin cells to be like those of a woman in her twenties. In the second study, as few as one to two BBL treatments per year, over eight or more years, were able to effectively stop the ageing process.”
Commenting on visiting AACSH to demonstrate the treatment, Dr. Bitter comments: “As a dermatologist with a passion for creating beautiful skin, I have been honoured to be invited to visit the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital in Dubai, to demonstrate the anti-ageing benefits and safety of BBL for Middle Eastern skin.”
