United Arab Emirates, 23 March 2015 – According to recent statistics issued today by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH), the number of cosmetic surgery procedures carried out in its premises in Dubai, UAE has increased by 15% from 2013 to 2014– with liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast surgery, cosmetic gynaecology and rhinoplasty the hospital’s top five cosmetic surgeries last year.
During 2014, liposuction was the top cosmetic surgery in demand in the hospital, with procedures increasing by 19.3% from 2013 to 2014. Breast procedures - including augmentation, lift and reduction – increased by 7.4% from 2013 to 2014, with abdominoplasty up 3%. The figures also revealed a gender breakdown of patients – with 77.1% of cosmetic procedures requested by females, while men requested 22.9% of the procedures.
Commenting on the results, Dr. Matteo Vigo, Chief Medical Officer at AACSH, said: “We have witnessed a continuous demand for liposuction procedures in the region since 2000. This comes due to rapid developments in the field of minimally invasive liposuction with techniques using radio frequency and ultrasound entering the field.
These techniques decrease the downtime and postoperative discomfort of the procedure considerable, in comparison to more invasive out-dated techniques.
“With new technologies in liposuction and body contouring, male patients can also look into addressing areas of traditional stubborn fat accumulation such as the chest, love handles and the tummy. In fact, we are seeing increasing numbers of men visiting the hospital enquiring into what we call the “Bodybuilding sculpture” procedure, during which new liposuction techniques are used to remove fat and ‘sculpt’ abs, creating a six-pack”, added Dr Vigo.
While demand for liposuction procedures continues to steadily grow in 2015, AACSH statistics for the first quarter of this year indicate an increasing number of tummy tuck procedures taking place, with the number of tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgeries being doubled for the first three months of 2015 compared to the same period of 2014. Breast surgery procedures also remain in demand and facial rejuvenation procedures, using the latest fat-grafting techniques utilising patients’ fat cells, are expected to be amongst the most popular procedures in 2015, according to the hospital.
“People in the region are becoming more and more aware of the life-changing impact of cosmetic surgery and are increasingly educated on the latest technologies and non-invasive techniques. We offer state-of-the-art technology across both surgical and non-surgical procedures, combined with the very best medical experts from across the world, ensuring our patients receive the finest care and advice”, concluded Vigo.
As a leader in its field and the first hospital to open in Dubai Healthcare City, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) offers a comprehensive medical and cosmetic facility that accommodates the needs of the region by providing optimal care, services, training, and public awareness.
