The month-long Festival seeks to engage, inspire and excite audiences in the UAE through free concerts, performances and workshops
(Abu Dhabi, UAE: 09 March, 2015): United under the Festival theme ‘Idea: The Seed of Invention', Abu Dhabi Festival 2015 invites the UAE to an extensive programme of free concerts, performances and workshops to enjoy with family and friends throughout the month of March.
From an afternoon of wacky science with the Ministry of Science Live! to the inspiring Young Musicians' Concert with Decoda, evenings of film with Cinema Emirati, to the return of last year's youth favourite, Capital Vibes II, there is something to inspire everyone during ADF15.

What: Cinema Emirati
A celebration of UAE independent filmmaking supported by Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation. The series of films features Q&As with directors Amal Al Agroobi, Saeed Salmeen, and Nujoom Al Ghanem. And look out for the Eco-Film screening of “Origins” presented in association with EWS-WWF.

The Abu Dhabi Festival Commissions 2015
Accompanied by guided tours, talks, workshops and two limited edition publications.
The internationally acclaimed FotoFest leaves its U.S. home to come to the Middle East for the first time with a specially curated exhibition for the Abu Dhabi Festival based on the highly praised 2014 FotoFest Biennale. The exhibition showcases a diverse and stimulating selection of leading contemporary Arab artists. From photojournalistic images of important public events to poetic reflections on Arab culture, these artworks show the complexity and beauty of life in the Middle East and North Africa today. The inter-connections between tradition and change, both global and regional, are central to these works and the way these artists engage with the world around them. Accompanying this exhibition are works by 12 dynamic Emirati artists exploring cultural identity in ‘Emirati Insights' plus the Abu Dhabi Festival Commissions by Fatma Lootah, Noor Al Suwaidi and Sawsan Al Bahar

A wonderful way to introduce children from 2-5 years to the joys of live performance and storytelling in an informal and interactive environment. Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi becomes the musical wunderkind Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and introduces children to the full range of his work; from variations on ‘Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star' to ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik' as well as operatic arias. What: The 11th Emirates International Peace Music Festival
Join young musicians from different countries and see how the next generation is embracing the magic of music. The nationwide tour is presented by the Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Premiere Music College of Prague, and The Orchestra of the Bielsko-Biala Music School.

New Media, New Outlook

Education for Innovation: the Role of the Arts in STEM Education
Creativity and innovation relate to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), with examples from space exploration, the automotive industry, and other industries. However, when people speak about creativity and innovation do they consider, let alone think about, the arts? How do we clarify and strengthen the connection between learning in the arts, creativity and innovation? Is there a connection between the creative processes in the arts and in science? Should STEAM (not STEM) power the next generation?

The Creative Economy
Upon the launch of the latest UNESCO Creative Economy Report in Arabic, the panel brings together Oussama Rifahi (Arab Fund for Arts & Culture), Anna Paoloini (UNSECO) , Sumayyah Al Suwaidi (creative entrepreneur) and the report's co-author Professor Yudhishthir Raj Isar. The creative economy is one of the most rapidly growing sectors of the world economy. This discussion explores the cultural and creative industries at the local level, how they are engines for economic and social development, and factors contributing to a successful creative economy.
