CITIZEN partnered with Century Events team to organize a comprehensive clean-up of the coastline and seabed around the Jeddah Corniche recently. The initiative in its second year now was held under the patronage of the Governor of Mecca under the title “Our environment Our Responsibility”. Around 100 divers of different nationalities participated in the initiative.
The cleanup initiative saw divers remove remains of abandoned fishing lines, garbage and other debris from the seabed and the coastline off the Corniche, near the Three Bridges Area, in order to clear up the water and allow the sun to reach the coral beds, which were otherwise blocked off by a layer of trash. The cleanup also creates a much more conducive environment for aquatic life of all forms. It also raises awareness among the local populace of the importance of preserving and protecting our natural environment and wildlife.
Mr. Takahiro Miyazaki, General Manager Citizen Watches Gulf Co. said "CITIZEN is always in the look out to support any activity that promotes environment sustainability and we are proud to partner with this initiate which contributes in the conservation of the marine flora and fauna, particularly the coral reef which are rendered vulnerable due to unsustainable fishing practices and pollution”
Ahmed Sahab the CEO of Century events said “More than cleaning up the sea, we aim to raise awareness of the threat poised to the environment as 85% of the Marine life depends on Coral Reef, we appreciate CITIZEN’s understanding to the cause and their support to the initiative”.
