1 February, 2015 – The opening event of the world’s most renowned amateur golf tournament has officially teed off this year in Dubai with more than 100 golfers turning out to compete.
The Audi quattro Cup Golf Tournament Series, this year celebrating its 25th anniversary, will see over 800 rounds played by more than 100,000 golfers in at least 50 countries throughout the year.
Hosted locally by Al Nabooda Automobiles, the official dealer for Audi in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, the first series of the tournament in the world saw Craig Miller and Steve Pettigrew take the winning spot at The Address Montgomerie Club.
Graham Batchelor and Rhys Alexander came in a close second as runners up, and now all four finalists go forward to the UAE final, competing for a chance to represent the Emirates in the Audi quattro Cup World Final 2015 in Los Cabos, Mexico at the end of November.
Ali Al Nabooda, General Manager Audi, Al Nabooda Automobiles, said: “The Audi quattro Cup series has been running for more than two decades and is a powerful way to promote golf throughout the world. Golf is one of the most loved sports in Dubai and our city is renowned for its abundance of world-class courses and greens.
“It was an honour to host the first tournament of the series here and to enjoy a beautiful Dubai day at the Montgomerie course. This tournament is an annual highlight for us at Al Nabooda Automobiles, spending an exciting, competitive day with our customers and guests as they battle it out in long drives and challenging putts.
“Audi represents sports competition, precise technology and passion. That’s what we’ve celebrated here today. My congratulations go to our four finalists and I wish them all the best in the next round.”
The Audi quattro Cup Golf Tournament Series was established in 1991 and welcomes more golfers and countries every year. In 2014, Brazil became the latest member, while this year Sri Lanka will join the series. More than 1.4 million golfers have taken part in an Audi quattro Cup tournament during the last 25 years.
