Fourth Annual euphoria Calvin Klein Spotlight on Women Filmmakers ‘Live the Dream’ Grant Presented to Emerging Female Director

Dubai, December 8, 2014 – euphoria Calvin Klein continues its partnership with the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) as a presenting sponsor of the 24th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards™, which will be held on Monday, December 1st, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. 

The first major award show of the film season, the Gotham Independent Film Awards™, established in 1991, celebrates the authentic voices behind and in front of the camera in the year’s best American independent feature films.

Continuing the brand’s support of women in film, euphoria Calvin Klein will present the fourth annual euphoria Calvin Klein Spotlight on Women Filmmakers ‘Live the Dream’ grant, a $25,000 cash award for an alumna of IFP’s Independent Filmmaker Labs. This grant aims to further the careers of emerging women directors by supporting the completion, distribution and audience engagement strategies of their first feature film. This year’s nominees are: Garrett Bradley (Below Dreams), Claire Carré (Embers) and Chloé Zhao (Songs My Brothers Taught Me).

euphoria Calvin Klein will also present the Best Actress Award, which will be presented to one of the following nominated actresses: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Scarlett Johansson (Under the Skin) and Mia Wasikowska (Tracks).

“The euphoria Calvin Klein Spotlight on Women Filmmakers ‘Live the Dream’ grant will again help to advance the career of one of the very talented women filmmakers supported by the IFP filmmaker lab program,” said Joana Vicente, Executive Director, IFP. “We are grateful for euphoria Calvin Klein’s role in supporting and celebrating women of independent film.”

The 2013 ‘Live the Dream’ winner Gita Pullapilly received the $25,000 grant for her film, Beneath the Harvest Sky.

Gotham Independent Film Awards nominations were given to a total of 38 films across eight competitive categories: Best Feature, Best Documentary, Breakthrough Director, Breakthrough Actor, Best Actor, Best Actress, Audience Award and the ‘Live the Dream’ grant. Previous winners for Best Feature and Best Documentary include The Tree of Life (2011), Beginners (2011), Winter’s Bone (2010), The Oath (2010), The Hurt Locker (2009), Food, Inc. (2009), Frozen River (2008) and Trouble the Water (2008). The Gotham Independent Film Awards™ are also unique for their ability to assist in catapulting award recipients prominently into national awards season attention, including the following recent winners and ultimate Academy Award contenders: Best Features Tree of Life (2011), Winter’s Bone (2010) and The Hurt Locker (2009); and Breakthrough Actors Melissa Leo (2008), Ellen Page (2007), Rinko Kikuchi (2006) and Amy Adams (2005). 

The Gotham Independent Film Awards™ marks the second occasion euphoria Calvin Klein has partnered with the IFP this year, following the 67th Cannes Film Festival in May.
