Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – 18th November 2014: This weekend on the Abu Dhabi Corniche capital residents cheered on race participants as they finished the ultimate fitness challenge – the Get Driver Fit Obstacle Course Challenge. Completing its second successful year, the Get Driver Fit programme, brought to you by National Health Insurance Company – Daman’s Activelife initiative, saw the Abu Dhabi community come together for 10-weeks of fitness fun and free classes.
Abu Dhabi residents Manjit Malhi and Anais Chauvin led the competition and were crowned the Get Driver Fit Obstacle Course Champions, winning a grand prize of a trip for two to Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa, Thailand, for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. A number of prizes were also given away throughout the course’s opening this weekend, including membership to Fitness First, a night’s stay at Hilton Abu Dhabi, Spa vouchers and day passes to Hiltonia Beach Health Club & Spa and Executive lunch packages and Skinny Delight Hampers from Right Bite.
Discussing the overall programme, Dr. Sven Rohte, Chief Commercial Officer at Daman said:
“This year’s Get Driver Fit campaign has seen a phenomenal uptake with the team challenge event proving a hugely successful addition to the programme. Participants were definitely inspired with the 360 degree training schedule aligned with that of successful drivers and aimed at increasing both physical and mental fitness and performance orientation.”
“This is the second consecutive year Daman’s ActiveLife has supported GDF and we are delighted with the response by local residents to take up the challenge and create a real culture shift in their approach to fitness. We would like to thank everyone who came along and helped make the event such a success; and helping to create a healthier UAE community.”
The Get Driver Fit program was hugely successful with several schools from across the UAE completing the obstacle cross over the weekend of 13-15 November.
The West Plaza also saw new activities and excitement with the return of the F1 FanZone™ and new Urban Art Zone. Opening now until the day of the final race, Sunday, 23 November, both venues will run Thursday – Friday from 4 pm to midnight and Saturday to Wednesday from 5 pm – 11 pm. Fans and spectators can feel the rush of the race with thrills and spills for motorsport enthusiasts of all ages. Over at the Art Zone, the public can watch art come to life as an old shipping container and art car are transformed into live graffiti art, bringing the industrial heritage of Abu Dhabi into the creative world of Yasalam 2014. As part of Yasalam’s continued community outreach, the zone is also teaching about upcycling and refurbishing furniture to help give back to the under-privileged in the community.
Featuring an eclectic mix of music for every taste across the Capital, fan-favourite Volkswagen presents Beats on the Beach returns with an amazing line-up of local, regional and global talent from Thursday November 20th until Saturday November 22nd, gates opening at 6.30pm.
