AMAF Donates over AED500,000 to DHA's Healthcare Fund for Treatement of Insolvent Cancer Patients

Articulates Effort to Revive Waqf for Healthcare

Dubai-UAE: 08 November, 2014 – Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) has donated a cheque worth AED584,000 to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) as its contribution to the healthcare fund that has not received as much support as other waqf funds. AMAF’s donation will be used to pay for the treatment of insolvent cancer patients. 

His Excellency Tayeb Al Rais, Secretary General of AMAF, handed over the cheque to His Excellency Engineer Essa Al Maidoor, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority, at the DHA headquarters. 

His Excellency Tayeb Al Rais, Secretary General of AMAF, said: “Most of the waqf donors direct their donations to building mosques. While other funds, like healthcare funds, suffer deficits despite their vital role in helping needy patients. 

“The Foundation’s actively seeks opportunities that benefit the public through vital sectors such as education and healthcare. We hope that our cooperation with DHA will be a good start for future waqf projects that serve the society. We are confident AMAF’s initiative will revive waqf for healthcare and encourage corporates and financially capable individuals to come forward and help cover the costs of treatment through the waqf funds.”  

AMAF’s gesture articulates its efforts to support Dubai’s pioneering role in the implementation of waqf projects, such as building hospitals, establishing waqf funds, and providing free medical treatment to the needy.  

Ahmad Abu Shehab, Director of Waqf Development, said: “This initiative reiterates AMAF’s goal to forge effective partnerships with government entities. The Foundation’s gesture is also the first of its kind that seeks to activate the healthcare fund’s contribution towards supporting insolvent patients and paying for their medical treatment costs.”
