Saint-Imier (Switzerland), November 07, 2014 – The start of the new Alpine skiing season is the perfect opportunity for Longines to unveil the name of its new Ambassador of Elegance, American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin. The talented athlete is the winner of the « Longines Rising Ski Stars » for the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons, a prize awarded to the best female skier under the age of 21 who competes for the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup. Her achievements also include a World Championship title in 2013 and two crystal globes in her specialist discipline: slalom.
The Swiss watch brand Longines is proud to announce that Mikaela Shiffrin has now joined the prestigious family of its Ambassadors of Elegance. The talented athlete won two times in a row – for the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons – the « Longines Rising Ski Stars » prize, awarded to the best female skier under the age of 21 who competes for the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup. Her achievements also include a World Championship 2013 title and two crystal globes in her specialist discipline: slalom.
This impressive list of feats, at such a young age, is certainly a key reason that led the famous Swiss watch brand to have Mikaela Shiffrin join its list of ambassadors, but most importantly, this partnership is in line with what the Swiss watch brand has at heart: supporting the champions of tomorrow in all sports it is involved in. Longines has indeed been organizing several projects linked to its partnership events: the Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament within the frame of Roland-Garros, the Longines Future Ski Champions in Val d’Isère and the Prix Longines Future Racing Stars, a race taking place during the Prix de Diane Longines in Chantilly.
When it comes to her new “status” as a Longines Ambassador of Elegance, Mikaela Shiffrin said: “I am a person who values quality, class and integrity and I would like for my fans to view me as a great athlete with strong femininity and resolved to always get a job done with the utmost class, compassion, integrity, and the perfect combination of flair and edginess. I have a great appreciation for quality in every aspect of my life, performance, diet, surroundings, life-style, appearance, choice of words, and yes, even my watch. I have always thought of Longines as exuding the kind of class and elegance that I personally strive for, even at my young age. That is why I was so thrilled to be presented with my gorgeous Longines watches two years in a row for winning the Longines Rising Star Award. I feel that Longines signifies the elegance I regard highly and I would be honored to represent Longines well as a world class athlete with a world class attitude, sporting a watch that is in a class of its own.”
The story of Longines and Alpine skiing goes back to 1933, when the brand was responsible for timing races in Chamonix. Nowadays, Longines has been the Official Partner and Timekeeper for the FIS World Cup Alpine Skiing races since 2006. The Official Watch of the season will be a one hundredth of a second chronograph, the Conquest 1/100th Alpine Skiing, specially created for professional Alpine skiers as well as fans of this discipline. This model measures time at multiple intermediaries and has an intuitive analogue display that shows the time to one hundredth of a second using a specific hand. All of this is possible thanks to the latest generation of quartz movement developed exclusively for Longines.
